I know we have all been anxiously awaiting the re-opening of Splash Mountain in the Frontierland area in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It is a popular attraction and definitely one of the iconic attractions within the park. The attraction closed on August 28th, 2017 for a refurbishment and is still currently closed. The attraction is expected to re-open to guests on November 17th, 2017. Disney sources online now indicate that Splash Mountain will close again on January 8th, 2018 for another month long refurbishment. That refurbishment is expected to be complete and ready to re-open the attraction to guests on February 1st, 2018.

We don’t know the nature of the current refurbishment or the exact reasoning behind another refurbishment. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, we suspect that Disney wanted to make sure that the attraction could be open during peak season and then continue more refurbishment efforts. It would make sense for Walt Disney World to plan the refurbishment schedule in that way.
Walt Disney World frequently closes various attractions in order to refurbish them and complete necessary maintenance to ensure that they are safe and visually appealing to guests. Disney puts a lot of effort into maintaining appearances and ensuring that things look new and well maintained so that the experience is as magical as possible. There are typically only a couple attractions closed at a time across all of the parks to help ensure that there are plenty of attractions open for guests when they visit.
