Disney World Offers Three Separate Versions of Space Mountain
Space Mountain is one of Magic Kingdom Park‘s most iconic attractions, known for thrilling guests in complete darkness with its surprising drops and sharp turns. But recently, one Walt Disney World Resort guest discovered that their Space Mountain experience can vary greatly depending on when they ride it. One lucky guest managed to catch three different versions of this classic attraction—all in a week!
Reddit user u/Haunted_Soul666 shared their story after experiencing three unique takes on Space Mountain:

So, what makes these different versions possible? While Walt Disney World Resort doesn’t use the elaborate overlays that parks like Disneyland Resort offer (think Hyperspace Mountain with its Star Wars theme), Magic Kingdom Park’s Space Mountain still transforms for seasonal events. During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, event guests can experience the ride in a completely dark and silent version, adding a spooky twist. For Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the ride gets decked out with red and green lights and festive music, making for a jolly Tomorrowland journey.
This Redditor’s visit aligned perfectly to allow them to experience the regular daytime version, the Halloween version, and even a surprise “lights on” version, thanks to a brief ride breakdown. Seeing Space Mountain with the lights on is a rare treat, offering a behind-the-scenes view of the ride’s complex track and hidden details that normally remain unseen. Some Disney Parks fans even dream of experiencing this “version” as a fun rite of passage.
“Managed to get Normal Space Mountain, Halloween version in the dark… then today, the ride broke down on the first uphill,” the Disney Park guest explained. “Got stuck for about 10/15 mins, then finished the ride with everything lit up and no music.”
After riding three different versions of Space Mountain in such a short time, the guest considered themselves lucky, saying, “I suppose I’ll count myself as lucky to experience 3 different scenarios in a week!”
