As Spaceship Earth undergoes an indefinite refurbishment, EPCOT guests are being greeted by a new set of signage that guides them straight to an unexpected destination—a bar. The iconic ride closed on Monday, August 25, but its themed adults-only lounge, GEO-82, remains open for business.
Guests entering EPCOT on Monday noticed new temporary signs posted near both Spaceship Earth exits, guiding them to GEO-82. The bar opened earlier this summer and offers an upscale lounge experience with premium alcoholic beverages and small bites inspired by the diverse cultures represented at EPCOT.
Geo-82 did not disappoint. We had a great time and the fungi flatbread is awesome.
Walt Disney World Resort initially planned to overhaul Spaceship Earth before the park’s 50th anniversary in 2021. Unfortunately, the project was put on hold due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney hasn’t shared many details about this year’s refurbishment, but it isn’t expected to reopen with many noticeable changes.
New signage ensures guests don’t miss out on GEO-82 during Spaceship Earth’s closure. As WDWNT reported, a blue, double-sided sign now directs visitors from the East entrance of Spaceship Earth to GEO-82 at the West entrance. On the West side, two golden signs are placed along the walkways that lead into Project Tomorrow and the adults-only lounge.
Inside the automatic sliding doors, potted plants and a black curtain block guest access to Spaceship Earth’s post-ride experience, Project Tomorrow. The corridor and staircase leading to GEO-82 remain unaffected by the refurbishment.
Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced a reopening date for Spaceship Earth, but GEO-82 is expected to remain open for the entirety of the attraction’s refurbishment. Reservations for the lounge can be made up to 60 days in advance, and guests must be 21 or older to enter the bar.
