Bye-bye, Sesame Street Fun World. Sunny days are numbered for this corner of Universal Studios Japan…
The End of Sesame Street Fun World
Universal Studios Japan announced on March 9 that Sesame Street Fun World, located within the park‘s Universal Wonderland area, will permanently close on May 10, 2026. The land has been welcoming families since March 16, 2012 — more than 14 years of Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and the rest of the neighborhood calling the Osaka theme park home.

Sesame Street‘s presence at Universal Studios Japan won’t vanish entirely. The show’s characters will continue to appear across other park experiences, including the “NO LIMIT! Parade – Discover U!!! Version” and “The Ultimate Blues Bash – Colors of Music,” as well as scheduled meet-and-greets. The park will also continue selling Sesame Street-themed merchandise. “Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic” remains part of the entertainment lineup, too, though the show is currently suspended.
A Farewell Two Months in the Making
Rather than a quiet exit, Universal Studios Japan is giving the land a full two-month send-off. The “Forever Friends – Always Together” event kicks off March 20 and runs through closing day on May 10, 2026.

Universal Park guests visiting during that window can pick up a limited-edition partially transparent “Memory Snapshot Card” showcasing Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and friends alongside the Universal Studios Japan logo. The card is designed to let guests frame park landmarks within a Sesame Street border — a built-in memory-making tool for one last visit. The design will refresh midway through the event, with the first version available March 20 through April 14 and a second iteration distributed April 15 through May 10.

Two “Treasure Boards” will also be installed around the land from April 11 through May 10, positioned in front of Elmo’s Imagination Playland and Sesame’s Big Drive, giving Universal Park guests a place to leave their personal memories of the closing area.
