Runner Takes On RunDisney Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World While Undergoing Chemo

The Dopey Challenge with RunDisney is a 48.6 mile challenge during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna.  The race weekend recently passed and we learned about an amazing participant.  Completing 48.6 miles during the weekend events, which means completing the 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon events, is a challenge for anyone.  For this participant, it is even more impressive since they are also undergoing treatment for cancer.  Ron Wertley from Tampa, Florida is the name of this amazing participant.  He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow,  and given a 40% change of survival.  He found out this new just after completing the Dopey Challenge in 2018.  He wanted to participate again and train for the race while going through his chemo treatments. He has participated in the challenge multiple times, running with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training and raising more than $22,000 for the cause.
