Rest in Pieces: Disney Declares End of Beloved Attraction, New Thrill Arrives This Summer
Hold onto your magic bands, because Test Track is officially racing back into EPCOT this summer — and just in time for Disney to flex a little muscle in the face of Orlando’s other big theme park.
That’s right — Disney has confirmed that the reimagined version of Test Track will reopen to guests on July 22, 2025, and we are counting down the days.
If you’ve walked through EPCOT in the last year, you probably noticed a big construction zone where the popular high-speed ride used to be. But what Disney’s been cooking up behind those walls is more than just a fresh coat of paint — it’s a full-on revamp of the park’s most iconic thrill ride (besides Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, of course), and it’s coming back just in time to heat up a very competitive Orlando summer.
Test Track 3.0: What’s New?
First things first — this is not your old Test Track. It’s not even the Tron-inspired 2012 version anymore. This is a brand-new ride experience, inspired by the legacy of transportation and the future of mobility, brought to life by Disney Imagineering and General Motors.
Chevy branding? Gone. In its place? A celebration of innovation from across the GM brand lineup, with a much broader focus on how we move through the world — and why it matters.
Here’s what we know is coming:
-
Sleek New Ride Vehicles: They’ve been totally redesigned to look like futuristic concept cars, with darker, more industrial colors and glowing lighting elements. Inside, you’ll notice new seating, graphics, and a cockpit-style layout that feels way more high-tech.
-
Immersive Queue Spaces: While you wait, you’ll explore six new interactive areas — each one themed to a different era or idea in the history of mobility. From old-school engineering to space-age thinking, the queue is now a full-on exhibit.
-
New Show Scenes Inside the Ride: Don’t expect those flat obstacle simulations or a basic “weather test.” The new storyline is all about customization, onboard technology, and the emotional connection people have with driving and motion. And yes — it still ends with that big high-speed loop outdoors (phew!).
-
Refreshed Scenic Elements: The outdoor section hasn’t just been preserved — it’s been upgraded to match the vibe of the new story. Think new lighting, sound, and themed visuals to enhance the finale.

Why This Matters Right Now
Let’s talk timing. Universal’s Epic Universe is open and making major waves in Orlando. Between Super Nintendo World, a brand-new Harry Potter land, and some seriously impressive new coaster tech, it’s been a nonstop party at the newest park in town.
Disney’s answer? A summer filled with enhancements — and Test Track is the star of that show.
EPCOT has always been known as the more “chill” Disney park — great for food festivals, drinking around the world, and admiring topiary. But thrill rides? That wasn’t its thing… until now.
With Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind already drawing long wait times (and rocking guests backward through space), the return of Test Track gives EPCOT its second major thrill ride — and one that’s outdoors, grounded in real-world innovation, and packed with speed.
The combo of these two attractions could finally shift EPCOT’s reputation from “the park with the festivals” to “the park with the firepower.”
What’s Happening Now?
Construction is basically wrapped. Walls are down, the Test Track marquee sign is up, and ride vehicles have been spotted running full-speed around the track. Even the old gift shop has been redone and renamed the Test Track Gear Shop to match the sleek new style.
Disney hasn’t officially announced any previews just yet, but if you’re a Cast Member, Annual Passholder, Club 33 member, or part of Disney Vacation Club, keep your eyes peeled — early access tends to drop soon after reopening dates go public.
Until then, make your summer plans now. July 22 is looking like EPCOT’s buzziest day of the year — and Test Track’s comeback might just be the high-speed jolt Disney needs to remind everyone: they’re still here, and they’re still racing toward the future.
