This summer, Walt Disney World Resort guests have the rare chance to explore all six parks—Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park—all operating together for the first time in years. The milestone moment occurred on May 21, marking a major return to full resort offerings following the pandemic-era closures five years ago.

But while the excitement of a fully open resort is certainly something to celebrate, Florida’s tropical climate remains unpredictable. The region’s summer weather patterns are bringing a chance of strong afternoon storms that may affect operations, particularly at the water parks.

According to Click Orlando, “A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather remains in place through Friday as storms will have the potential to turn strong to severe.” These storms could include heavy downpours, gusty winds up to 60 mph, small hail, and frequent lightning. Even as guests enjoy everything Disney has to offer, safety remains the highest priority.

Historically, weather-related closures—especially at the water parks—are common. Earlier this year and at the end of 2024, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park experienced several temporary closures due to seasonal cold fronts that affected much of the East Coast and Central Florida.

The current forecast suggests this stormy trend may linger into the weekend and early next week. “Storm chances increase even more heading into the weekend,” the outlet added. “Each afternoon, expect scattered to widespread storms, especially where sea breezes collide. Friday may see a few strong to borderline severe storms, similar to Thursday. The pattern stays unsettled through Sunday, so keep the rain gear handy and have a backup plan if you’re headed outdoors.”

So far, no schedule changes are listed for Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, but guests are encouraged to monitor park updates through official Disney channels during their visit.

This weather advisory comes shortly after Universal Orlando Resort celebrated the soft opening of Epic Universe, its fourth park and third official theme park gate. With both destinations showcasing new offerings this summer, Central Florida is a hotspot for theme park adventures, weather permitting.

For those headed to Walt Disney World Resort this week, flexibility is key. Stay informed, stay dry, and make magical memories—rain or shine.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
