Six Flags Issues August 2025 Closure Notice, “Last Chance” To Visit Given
Six Flags Great America, located in Gurnee, Illinois, is giving fans a “last chance to ride” as the park announces the indefinite closure of its iconic Raging Bull roller coaster. The Southwest Territory ride will shut down for repainting when the Midwestern theme park closes its doors on August 18, 2025.
Raging Bull debuted at Six Flags Great America in 1999 and has long been a favorite among thrill-seekers. The coaster is considered the world’s first hyper-twister roller coaster, sending riders through nearly a mile of track at speeds of 73 miles per hour. Towering at 202 feet, it’s one of the tallest roller coasters in the park, making it an unforgettable ride for guests.
However, after decades of thrilling visitors, the time has come for Raging Bull to undergo an indefinite maintenance project. Six Flags Great America has officially issued a “last chance to ride” notice for the coaster on August 18, 2025. The closure will allow crews to repaint and refresh the ride.
While Raging Bull will be out of operation for an unknown period, guests can still enjoy the rest of the park’s attractions. The exact timeline for reopening hasn’t been confirmed, leaving many wondering whether the coaster will return before the end of the 2025 season. Six Flags Great America has also not stated whether Raging Bull will reopen in time for the Fright Fest event, which begins on September 13, 2025.
For now, guests can experience the ride until August 18, with the “last chance” to enjoy Raging Bull before the indefinite closure. The park is still operating on regular summer hours until that date, but starting on August 18, it will shift to weekend-only and select weekday hours.
Despite the temporary loss of Raging Bull, 2025 has already been a big year for Six Flags Great America. In May, the Midwestern theme park debuted its new Wrath of Rakshasa Dive Coaster, which will remain open during the Raging Bull refurbishment.
