Police Board Disney Cruise Ship Following Alleged Cast Member Poisoning

A European Disney Cruise Line vacation took an unexpected turn after an alleged incident between two crew members brought Spanish authorities aboard the Disney Dream.

One employee claims a fellow crew member poisoned her after tampering with her water bottle. The woman became sick during the voyage and eventually required treatment at a hospital in Spain.

She later filed a complaint with police and identified another crew member as a suspect.

Authorities have launched an investigation, but several major questions remain unanswered. Most importantly, officials have not confirmed that the employee was intentionally poisoned or that the person she accused was responsible.

Crew Member Becomes Sick During Disney Dream Sailing

The incident happened during the Disney Dream’s seven-night Western Europe cruise.

The one-way voyage departed Barcelona on July 20 and headed toward Southampton, where the sailing was scheduled to end on July 27.

During a stop in Vigo, Spain, on Friday, July 24, one of the ship’s crew members became ill.

The employee, who is reportedly an Argentinian national, first received medical attention aboard the Disney Dream. Her condition ultimately resulted in her being transported off the ship to Fátima Hospital for additional treatment.

At some point during the situation, the employee told medical personnel aboard the Disney Dream that she believed someone had interfered with her water bottle.

That concern eventually became a formal allegation.

Employee Reports Alleged Poisoning to Police

The crew member was eventually released from the hospital, but the situation didn’t end there.

Following her discharge, she filed a complaint with Spain’s National Police. She claimed she had been poisoned and reportedly named another crew member as the person she suspected.

Authorities then began investigating the circumstances surrounding her illness.

Spain’s Civil Guard boarded the Disney Dream as part of that investigation. Authorities also collected the water bottle at the center of the employee’s allegation so it could be examined.

There has been speculation that chlorine could have been involved, based on sources familiar with the case. However, authorities have not confirmed that chlorine was found in the bottle.

There is also no reported confirmation that investigators have determined exactly what caused the woman’s illness.

Disney Dream Continues Its Cruise

Despite authorities boarding the Disney Dream, the police investigation did not cause the cruise to stop.

The ship continued its voyage as scheduled.

There is currently no indication that passengers were involved in what happened. Based on the available information, the allegation centers on an incident between crew members rather than guests.

Several details also remain unknown.

Authorities have not announced an arrest or criminal charges. No motive has been publicly reported, and it remains unclear why the woman suspected the specific employee she identified to police.

The contents of the water bottle could provide investigators with additional evidence as they attempt to determine what happened.

Until those results become clear, the allegation should not be treated as confirmation that a deliberate poisoning occurred.

For now, authorities are investigating a serious accusation made by one Disney Dream employee against another while the ship continues operating its European itinerary.
