Out of Nowhere, Disney Removes Another Frontierland Location From Magic Kingdom
Just weeks after a nostalgic piece of Frontierland made its return to Magic Kingdom, Disney has unexpectedly removed it once again. The iconic wooden “Frontierland” sign that briefly hung near the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) kiosk has disappeared, leaving only an autumn garland in its place.
The Frontierland sign had been missing for over two years before it was finally refurbished and reinstalled in early July 2025. The sign hangs from wooden posts near the DVC kiosk and serves as a subtle boundary marker between Frontierland and Liberty Square. Its return was a pleasant surprise for guests who had seen it vanish in the summer of 2023.
When the sign was reinstalled, it was given a fresh coat of paint while retaining the same red “Frontierland” lettering. The sign’s return seemed to be part of a broader set of improvements in the area, possibly connected to the construction of McKim’s Mile House, a new DVC member lounge that replaced the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade.
However, the sign’s time back in Frontierland was short-lived. On August 21, 2025, WDWNT reported that the hanging “Frontierland” sign had disappeared again, with only a decorative autumn garland left hanging from its posts.
Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on the removal, and the reason for this sudden change is unclear. It’s puzzling why the sign would be removed so quickly after its refurbishment and reinstallation. Another sign – on the walkway between Adventureland and Frontierland — which was also refurbished earlier this year, remains in place.
The sign’s removal comes amid other significant changes in Frontierland. Last month, the Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Rivers of America permanently closed to make way for the Cars (2006)-themed Piston Peak National Park. This new addition to Frontierland will feature a thrilling rally race ride and a family-friendly attraction.
Imagineers have already started draining the Rivers of America and dismantling parts of Tom Sawyer Island to prepare for the new area. However, Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced a grand opening date for Piston Peak National Park.

Frontierland should NEVER have been touched. Period. And this “disappearing” of a sign at Frontierland and what have you; COMPLAIN!!! This is to see if YOU, the customer, parkgoer realizes it’s gone and if it bothers you. RAISE YOUR VOICE IF IT DOES. Disney CANNOT ERASE THIS COUNTRYS HISTORY!!
The whole thing to me is sad. I appreciate things don’t always stay the same or need to. But some iconic features are what sets Disney apart from other parks, and it feels that is getting lost as they create ride after ride and area after area that follow only their movies. They’ve lost sight of some of the iconic and enjoyable areas, feelings, emotions; the vibe that set Disney apart.
Disney and their weird random decisions again.
It’s sad,set the scenery for frontier land and New Orleans. It’s a shame.
Trouble is Disney has become so woke. Not sure why anyone would waste their money there anymore.
Wakt and Roy Disney are being erased so that some imagineer gets to put their thumb print on WDW. It is now at the point that we are cancelling our Disney+ and Annual Passes never to return. We discussed the changes and ibsaid 3 weeks ago Frontierland would be next and Haunted Mansion. Heck no we will not go to WDW and keep our $6000. RIP WDW.
What is happening to the Disney Parks is a travesty. Removing the very icon attractions that people associate with the Disney name is taking this enterprise into the wrong direction.
I understand that there is a huge rivalry and competition for business in Orlando between Disney and at least 2 other theme parks in the area… especially the one who’s initials are ‘U.S.’
That being said, I really don’t believe the answer to staying on top of the game for Disney-is to remove all the historic attractions that are ‘True Classics’ in nature, replacing them with the theme park equivalent of ‘Modern Fashion’, which looks good for a while, but after a few years, the quirky stuff gets sent to Goodwill.
In contrast to nearly all of the country’s themed attractions, Disney theme parks opened with ‘Classic’ attractions, thoughtfully developed basic ideas that are filled with Classic themes and technology. Attractions like the train ride, haunted mansion and the now gone (sigh) riverboat cruise and Tom Sawyer Island, were developed by Walt with a specific purpose in mind, namely, to assure that the park has enjoyable experiences for ‘Kids of all Ages’; whether you’re 5 or 95, you can ‘ride the rides’, rather than just sitting on a park bench and waiting…while everyone else has fun. The whole purpose was for families to enjoy the attractions together. I worry that the Disney Imagineers today are losing sight of that goal.
DISNEY, IF YOU’RE LISTENING, this is for you:
True Classics never go out of style. Please stop removing them. If you want to add some ‘quirky fashion’ to the parks, you have lots of space at WDW to do so without ruining the personality that we all love so much (and that makes Disney parks the most popular in the world). Then, when those going out of style, which they will, replace THEM.
Don’t replace Disney with Pixel or Marvel, or any other company that becomes a part of your portfolio.
Otherwise…..I fear the day when the name Disney is totally removed, as simply as the Frontierland sign.
Sincerely,

You will never see a Marvel type “land” at any of the Disney parks in Orlando. Universal bought the rights for their Orlando park prior to Disney purchasing Marvel. US has exclusive rights to the Marvel name, as well as the characters Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic 4 and Hulk, and use those characters in their Islands of Adventure theme park.
Disney can use Guardians of the Galaxy, as this was never in that Universal deal, and why there is a Guardians roller coaster at Epcot.
Disney’s California Adventure does have a Marvel campus.
