We previously announced that Walt Disney World, in collaboration with Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA, would be building a new solar facility on property. The solar facility, which is 270 acres and 50 megawatts is now online and providing renewable energy to Walt Disney World Resort. This new facility is expected to generate enough power to operate 2 of the 4 major theme parks on property. This will significantly reduce new greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the various efforts that have been in progress to reach the company’s 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% compared to 2012.
You have to check out this fun time-lapse video (which was filmed with a solar-powered camera) to see how the facility came to be:
How cool is this?!? Great job, Disney for continuing efforts to protect our environment!
