Netflix Alters Streaming Service Prior to ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Stranger Things’ Drop

Netflix has just introduced Moments, a new feature designed to give fans more control over how they experience and share their favorite Netflix moments. Available initially on iOS with plans to expand to Android, Moments lets users bookmark specific scenes on the mobile app while watching a show or movie, saving them for easy access later.

Each saved moment goes into a special “My Netflix” tab, providing an organized collection of clips for re-watching and sharing. With this feature, fans of shows like Stranger Things or Wednesday can capture the most iconic lines and scenes, adding a new level of engagement to their Netflix experience.

Moments also includes a social-sharing function, allowing users to post clips from their favorite Netflix titles directly to platforms like Instagram and Facebook. This marks Netflix’s most integrated step into social-sharing territory, capitalizing on the social culture that has long thrived around its content.

Viewers can now effortlessly share memorable scenes with friends and family, creating mini-fan experiences right from the Netflix app. Netflix’s Chief Marketing Officer Marian Lee noted, “Whether it’s sparking Halloween costume ideas or becoming a TikTok sensation, Netflix fans often want to share unforgettable moments.” This new feature, Lee added, is all about celebrating the unforgettable experiences that Netflix shows deliver, and Moments is just the beginning, with more features expected to roll out in the future.

To celebrate the launch, Netflix is running a campaign titled It’s So Good, featuring stars like Giancarlo Esposito, Simone Biles, and Cardi B who share some of their favorite Netflix scenes and stories. As part of this promotional effort, these stars openly discuss the moments that resonated most with them on Netflix. Esposito, known for his captivating roles in series like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, said, “There’s something magical that happens when a powerful story finds its audience.” Olympian Simone Biles, who shared how she loves diving deep into favorite scenes, highlighted that Moments enhances the streaming experience by allowing fans to go back to what they love.

Rumors of Potential Netflix Price Increases Looming

In addition to Moments, Netflix may also be preparing for a new round of price hikes. While the streaming giant hasn’t confirmed any immediate plans, industry analysts and insiders are buzzing with speculation.

Netflix’s track record of raising subscription fees to support its content production has led some experts to predict that a price increase could come in the next few months. As Netflix’s content offerings expand, price adjustments have become a regular feature for subscribers.

Analysts estimate that another price increase could come as early as 2025, potentially pushing subscription costs up by around 12%. Netflix’s premium tier, already one of the most expensive ad-free streaming options at $22.99 per month, could become even pricier, adding pressure on subscribers who are already navigating rising costs across multiple streaming services. Jason Bazinet, a Citi analyst, recently highlighted that Netflix’s value per hour of viewing remains high, making a slight increase justifiable from a business standpoint. Additionally, Evercore ISI’s Mark Mahaney pointed to a likely price bump within the “next three to nine months.”

The anticipated increase comes amid a broader trend in streaming, as Disney Plus and other services also raise rates. For example, Disney Plus announced a price hike this October, following another increase in the previous year. In an industry where price hikes have become routine, it’s likely that Netflix’s next move will be in line with these market adjustments. As industry leaders prepare for Netflix’s next earnings report this month, speculation about pricing remains high.

Tracking the Cost of Streaming Subscriptions

As the price of streaming continues to climb, it’s more crucial than ever for subscribers to evaluate their streaming budgets. Recent reports suggest that the average cost for ad-free streaming platforms in the U.S. has climbed to about $87 monthly. For Netflix users looking to save, options include the more budget-friendly ad-supported plan, available for $6.99 per month. Subscribers can also take advantage of features like account pausing and shared memberships, available with the standard and premium plans.

Currently, Netflix offers three subscription tiers:

  • Standard with Ads: $6.99/month
  • Standard: $15.49/month
  • Premium: $22.99/month

The company eliminated its $9.99 Basic plan for new or rejoining members, giving budget-conscious users the choice between the Standard with Ads or the Standard tier. However, even with these options, managing monthly streaming expenses is becoming an essential part of budgeting for many households.

In a competitive market where subscriber retention is critical, Netflix’s latest offerings, including Moments, represent a broader strategy to keep viewers connected and engaged. The new feature underscores Netflix’s understanding of its audience, making it easier than ever for fans to relive their favorite on-screen moments, share the joy with friends, and be part of a growing global community of Netflix enthusiasts. As we await the platform’s upcoming earnings report, Moments offers a glimpse into Netflix’s commitment to innovation, even as the streaming landscape grows increasingly complex and costly.

Is this new Netflix feature one you would like to use?
