Surprise! The Muppets Have Officially Returned to the Theater

Months after the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D at Walt Disney World Resort, The Muppets are moving on to a much bigger stage. After weeks of previews, Jim Henson’s iconic characters will officially make their Broadway debut at New York’s Broadhurst Theatre on November 11.

Walt Disney World Resort may have closed its Muppets attraction for a Monsters, Inc. (2001) land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but that decision definitely doesn’t reflect the puppets’ popularity. They’ve dominated television, the silver screen, music, merchandising, and basically every other entertainment medium on the planet… Now, they’re headed to the Big Apple.

On November 11, “Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets” will premiere at New York City’s Broadhurst Theatre. The show features magician Rob Lake pulling off spectacular, unbelievable stunts, and special appearances from Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, and friends throughout the performance.

Magicians are known for making things disappear, but making The Muppets appear on the Broadway stage is one of Lake’s biggest stunts yet. The entertainer spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his partnership with Jim Henson’s characters being “a perfect marriage.”

“The Muppets and I both live in that space between imagination and storytelling,” Lake said. “When they appear onstage, everyone becomes a child again — that’s real magic.”

Producer Joe Quenqua is credited with finalizing the agreement to bring The Muppets to Broadway. The idea has been in the works for 50 years, but it has never materialized…until now.

“The idea of bringing The Muppets to Broadway has been around for 50 years,” Quenqua told Entertainment Weekly. “That we are the ones who finally have the honor of making that dream come true is truly humbling.”

Previews of “Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets” began October 28, and performances continue through January 18. The show lasts approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are available here.

Can’t get enough of The Muppets? Good news! A rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, inspired by The Muppets Mayhem, will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the summer of 2026. Walt Disney World Resort has also promised to preserve the Muppet*Vision 3D film for fans’ future enjoyment, but hasn’t shared any details about what that might look like.
