A Disneyland Resort guest recently shared an eerie video of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway during a ride breakdown. The attraction suddenly ceased operations with guests on board, forcing Disney cast members to turn on the overhead lights and expose typically hidden mechanics.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened in Toontown at Disneyland Park on January 27, 2023, almost three years after the version at Walt Disney World Resort’s Hollywood Studios theme park. The trackless “2 and 1⁄2 D” ride allows guests to step into a cartoon world without 3-D glasses, embarking on a fun-filled, zany adventure with Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and more of their friends.
Earlier this month, one Disneyland Resort guest gave Disney Parks fans an insider look at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. During a ride breakdown, TikTok user @duckvro had the chance to see a spooky part of the new attraction with the overhead lights on:

In the video, guests remained trapped in their trackless ride vehicle as Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, and Pluto heads spun silently around a mechanical tornado. Although the other special effects were turned off, the tornado kept spinning, making an eerie machine-like sound.
The video amassed more than 40,000 likes and comments from Disney Parks fans. Many enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
“This is scarier than the real scene in this ride,” @pawstoheart wrote.
“This room is so scary,” @chickennugget69666 agreed.
Others took the opportunity to criticize Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway–many preferred its Walt Disney World Resort predecessor, The Great Movie Ride.
“We lost great movie ride for this?” @tokyospacewhale asked.
“That room needs a LOT more in it,” said @vecheeso. “I get the concept of it taking everything in but it’s a giant room with almost nothing interesting to see.”
Disneyland Resort rarely publishes the reasons for ride breakdowns, and this incident is no different. However, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway eventually reopened and was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.

I can’t believe this was even approved to be written and published. Rides break down all the time. I’ve been in Runaway railway in WDW and had to be evacuated from the last room. Nothing new or major. I’m sure in the 2 years it’s been open, this wasn’t the first time it went down and lights came on. Can we find better stories to write about?!!
