Iconic McDonald’s to be Torn Down by The Walt Disney Company

In a surprise move that has Disney fans talking (and fast food lovers mourning), the giant McDonald’s at Disney Village in Disneyland Paris is officially on the chopping block. That’s right—after more than two decades of late-night fries and Happy Meals, the iconic golden arches are coming down as part of the district’s ongoing transformation.

A demolition permit filed on July 23, 2025, confirms what many had suspected for months. The Disney Village location—formerly the largest McDonald’s in France and known for its dramatic Commedia dell’arte theme—will soon be replaced by a sleeker, modernized two-story McDonald’s in a nearby space.

The update was first posted by trusted Disney construction tracker @DLPWorks on X:

[Breaking News] ⚠️🚨Demolition permit for #DisneyVillage McDonald’s has officially been filed on July 23, 2025!!

➡️ Construction of the brand-new 2 floors McDonald’s next to the current location, began in September 2024. The opening is planned for 2026, as part of the ongoing #Disney Village transformation!

➡️ For the record, the restaurant themed as Italian Commedia dell’arte, opened on January 25, 1999 with its famous yellow archs and was considered as the largest #McDonalds in France!

➡️ Construction updates & more details on #DLPWorks networks.

Translation: Bye-bye old-school nuggets, hello sleek modern arches. And this isn’t the only thing getting bulldozed and rebuilt.

What’s Going on at Disney Village?

A lot, actually. Disney Village—once a bit of a mishmash—is in the middle of a major facelift that’s being quietly rolled out between now and late 2026. Disney’s goal? To turn the often-overlooked shopping and dining complex into a true all-day, all-night destination that feels more elevated and immersive.

Disney’s official statement describes the project as “timeless by day and stylish by night,” and let’s be honest, it’s long overdue.

The revamped area will feature:

  • Wider walkways

  • New lakeside terraces

  • Lush landscaping

  • Interactive lighting and music installations

  • Sleek, modern architecture with nods to Disney stories

No, it’s not going full Star Wars or Marvel—but it’s aiming to channel an “I want to stay here longer” vibe, whether you’re grabbing dinner or wrapping up a park day.

So What’s Already Changed?

First up: Café Mickey is gone. In its place is Rosalie, a contemporary Parisian brasserie with gorgeous waterfront seating. Think: roasted duck, fresh tartines, and fancy desserts you’ll want to post before eating. Operated by the Bertrand Group, it’s elevated dining with major Disney polish.

Across the way is The Royal Pub, which replaced King Ludwig’s Castle in early 2023. It’s your go-to for Guinness beef stew, fish and chips, and full English breakfasts (yes, even on vacation).

Planet Hollywood? Also out. The giant globe has been gutted to make way for Casa Giulia, a stylish Italian concept by—you guessed it—the Bertrand Group. It’s expected to serve both full-service and grab-and-go meals with a sunny Mediterranean flair. That one’s targeting a 2026 opening.

And just steps from where the current McDonald’s sits, construction has already begun on a new two-story McDonald’s that will debut that same year—just without the oversized red-and-yellow theming.

Wait, What’s Still Left?

Not everything’s changing. Annette’s Diner, the 1950s roller-skating spot, is still standing strong (for now). The Sports Bar, however, is set for an upgrade—no word yet on if it’ll keep its name or pivot to something fresher.

Retail is also getting a glow-up. Coming March 8, 2025:

  • Disney Style, inspired by The Incredibles’ Edna Mode, with customizable apparel and style-forward Disney merch

  • Disney Glamour, focused on accessories, jewelry, and partnerships with brands like Pandora

In April, Déco by Disney opens its doors with collectible home décor, including wall art and rare prints. The LEGO Store already reopened in spring 2025 with life-sized sculptures and new photo ops, while the main Disney Store is still under refurbishment.

Why Does This Matter?

If you’ve ever ended your Disneyland Paris night hangrily searching for food, you know Disney Village was once more “chaotic food court” than curated destination. This transformation isn’t just cosmetic—it’s a total vibe shift.

Disney is clearly betting on guests spending more time (and money) in Disney Village. The upgrades aim to make this space not just a pass-through, but a place to dine, relax, shop, and maybe even take that perfect sunset pic over the lake.

TL;DR

  • The iconic Disney Village McDonald’s is being demolished (permit filed July 2025)

  • A new, modern 2-story McDonald’s is already under construction next door

  • Café Mickey is now Rosalie; Planet Hollywood is becoming Casa Giulia

  • New stores like Disney Style, Glamour, and Déco are rolling out through 2025

  • The full Disney Village transformation should wrap by late 2026

It’s the end of an era—and the start of a bougie new one. RIP, nuggets under the clown mask. We’ll miss you.
