Major Shutdown Set For Popular Disney World Hotel This Fall

Walt Disney World is no stranger to change. Attractions are refreshed, new dining experiences are opened, and entire lands are reimagined to keep things exciting for returning guests.

Lately, though, it’s not just the theme parks that are evolving. Disney has zoomed in on the resorts, giving some of its most popular hotels much-needed updates. The latest news? Another major hotel closure is now set to shake up guests’ plans.

Why Guests Love Staying on Property

Part of making a Disney vacation special is fully immersing yourself in the “Disney dream.” When you stay at a Disney hotel, everything—from the decor to the dining—is designed to extend the storytelling beyond the theme parks. Add perks like Early Entry, free transportation, and proximity to the action, and it’s easy to see why many families choose to stay on property.

Disney’s resorts range from budget-friendly Value options to luxurious Deluxe hotels, each offering its own style of theming. They aren’t just places to sleep—they’re destinations in their own right.

Animal Kingdom Lodge Steps Into the Spotlight

Among the Deluxe resorts, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge stands out for its one-of-a-kind design. Opened in 2001, the hotel is modeled after an African lodge built around a private savanna.

Guests can sip coffee on their balconies while giraffes and zebras stroll past. It’s this incredible theming, along with signature restaurants like Boma and Jiko, that has made the lodge a fan favorite.

The resort is divided into two main areas: Jambo House, the original building, and Kidani Village, home to Disney Vacation Club members. Both have strong African themes, cultural displays, and pools that make the resort feel like a mini vacation spot.

Major Refurbishment Timeline

Disney has announced a multi-phase refurbishment project that will last several years. Work began in July 2025 on the Zebra Trail Terrace at Jambo House and continued through September. From there, attention shifts to Kidani Village, where rooms will undergo a full overhaul between October 2025 and May 2026.

This renovation will go beyond cosmetic upgrades—Disney plans to replace flooring, lighting, furniture, and fixtures. Once complete, similar updates will roll out at Jambo House between May 2026 and January 2027.

It’s the first significant refurbishment since the Villas opened in 2007–2009. To maximize space in guest rooms, Disney may even introduce Murphy beds, a popular feature in other resorts. By the time the project wraps, Animal Kingdom Lodge will look and feel brand new.

Pool Slide Closure

Resort guests should also note another closure: the Samawati Springs Pool Slide at Kidani Village will be closed for maintenance starting September 8, 2025. Thankfully, the pool will stay open, and guests can still enjoy the Uzima Springs Pool slide at Jambo House.

Looking Ahead

These changes may cause disruptions—construction noise, unavailable sections, and closed amenities are all possible. Still, Disney has proven it can manage refurbishments while keeping the guest experience intact.

Once crews finish the work, Animal Kingdom Lodge blends its timeless African theming with modern comforts and continues to stand as a top-tier Disney destination.
