Tomorrowland History Bulldozed at Magic Kingdom

Tomorrowland is no stranger to change. Over the years, Walt Disney World Resort has reinvented the futuristic Magic Kingdom Park land countless times, demolishing old structures and adding new ones to keep the area fresh. Now, one of its more understated but historically significant locations has been leveled to the ground.

In May 2025, construction walls went up around the Cool Ship kiosk in Tomorrowland, a popular spot for Walt Disney World Resort guests to grab a quick churro or soda. Guests watched from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover as the bright red spaceship-topped stand was reduced to rubble. Within weeks, the once-bustling location was nothing more than a pile of dirt.

Over the last few weeks, Magic Kingdom Park guests have seen crews pouring concrete and laying footers for the foundation of a new version of the Cool Ship kiosk. It appears the replacement stand may have been prefabricated offsite, ready to be installed in large pieces.

On September 3, Walt Disney World Resort officially filed a new construction permit related to the Tomorrowland project. The Notice of Commencement specifies its purpose is to “Install Signage” at 1227 Monorail Way, Bay Lake, Florida, 32830—the exact location of the Cool Ship site. Walt Disney Imagineering has tapped Design Communications Ltd. for the work, a contractor that has previously handled projects at the EPCOT World Showcase Canada Pavilion and Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe at Magic Kingdom Park.

For most guests, Cool Ship was just another place to grab a snack, serving Coca-Cola products, pre-packaged ice cream bars, and theme park favorites like cotton candy and churros. But what many didn’t realize was that the fiberglass spacecraft perched on top of the stand came straight out of Disney movie history. The ship was a repurposed prop from Disney’s Flight of the Navigator (1986). Unfortunately, Walt Disney World Resort has not confirmed whether the vessel will return to Tomorrowland or find a permanent place in the archives.

At this time, Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t revealed further details about the future of the Cool Ship snack kiosk. It’s unclear whether the Tomorrowland dining location will serve updated food offerings or return to the same menu when it reopens.
