Magic Kingdom Opening Hours Officially Replaced at Disney World

Big things are stirring at Walt Disney World Resort as operational changes set the stage for exciting new experiences at both Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. From fresh nighttime entertainment to bold park transformations, summer 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark season.

Animal Kingdom is now the go-to destination for Extended Evening Hours, with the benefit returning to the park on May 5. That evening, Deluxe Resort guests enjoyed exclusive access to top attractions from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—including the bioluminescent world of Pandora and the thrills of Expedition Everest.

Additional Extended Evening Hours at Animal Kingdom are scheduled for July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and August 6. Though Magic Kingdom will briefly return to the program on August 13, the following week, Animal Kingdom picks things up again on August 20—indicating a one-time return rather than a full shift back.

This isn’t the only big development at Animal Kingdom. The park is laying the groundwork for a sweeping reimagining. With “Project Ro” approved earlier this year by the South Florida Water Management District, the park has clearance to proceed with infrastructure upgrades and environmental improvements through 2030. This supports the park’s future growth while protecting sensitive wetlands.

At the heart of this evolution is the introduction of Tropical Americas, a lush, new land celebrating the culture and natural beauty of Central and South America. This area will replace DinoLand U.S.A. and feature experiences like Antonio Madrigal’s magical room from Encanto and a one-of-a-kind carousel with animal characters brought to life by a master woodcarver.

While TriceraTop Spin has permanently closed, DINOSAUR will remain open until 2025. After that, the attraction will be transformed into a new adventure based on the Indiana Jones franchise. Meanwhile, It’s Tough to be a Bug! ended its run on March 16 to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether, a new show set to premiere in winter 2025 at the Tree of Life Theater.

Over at Magic Kingdom, the evolving entertainment schedule has many wondering what’s next—and they won’t have to wait long. On July 20, the park debuts Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, a brand-new nighttime parade traveling from Frontierland to Main Street, U.S.A. Guests can look forward to scenes from Moana, Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, Pinocchio, and more.

Behind the scenes, even bigger changes are underway. Frontierland is preparing to welcome Piston Peak National Park, a new land inspired by Pixar’s Cars. With Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America closing on July 7 and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad currently under refurbishment until 2026, Magic Kingdom is charting a new path forward.

With all six Disney parks officially open since May 21 and Universal’s Epic Universe now welcoming guests, Central Florida’s theme park scene is entering a bold new chapter. Whether it’s a peaceful glide on Na’vi River Journey or a spectacular new parade on Main Street, this summer promises memorable moments across every park.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
