“Is Everything Ok?” Magic Kingdom Attendance Plummets Ahead of Major Expansion

Magic Kingdom Park saw surprisingly low crowds last weekend, leaving many guests wondering if something was wrong with the park. This dramatic decrease in visitors comes just ahead of one of the most significant expansions in recent years: the addition of two Cars (2006)-themed attractions in Frontierland and a Disney Villains land “beyond Big Thunder Mountain weekend.”

Traditionally, Independence Day weekend at the Magic Kingdom is one of the busiest times of the year, with crowds typically filling the park to see the 360-degree fireworks, ride attractions, and enjoy summer vacation from public school. However, reports from Disney Park guests on July 6, 2025, suggest that this year was different.

Reddit user u/netflixnpoptarts shared a screenshot from the My Disney Experience app on Sunday, showing that wait times for popular rides like Space Mountain and TRON Lightcycle / Run were significantly shorter than expected. “What’s going on with these times?” the user asked in the post. “Is everything ok?”

This drop in attendance is particularly noticeable given the typical summer crowds that Disney parks draw. Families usually flock to the resort to take advantage of their vacation time, especially around major holidays like the Fourth of July.

But this year, it seems that the Magic Kingdom Park crowds simply didn’t show up. Even Walt Disney World Resort’s efforts to incentivize guests with discounts on theme park tickets, Disney Resort hotel rooms, and other experiences appeared to fall short.

“We just left MK and can confirm it is empty,” u/LaysOnFuton commented. “So strange for a holiday weekend.”

“I went today (local) and it was the least people I’ve seen since I went in July 2020 right after they reopened,” u/KubaBVB09 replied. “We did like 10 rides with a toddler in 4 hours. The longest wait was 15 minutes for Tiana.”

TikTok user @magicbyjulia shared another screenshot of the wait times, calling it a “perfect day” at Magic Kingdom Park.

Despite the low crowd reports, Walt Disney World Resort has not confirmed any official attendance data, leaving much of the speculation up to park guests and social media users.
