Cinderella Castle Overhaul Will Impact Magic Kingdom Park Guests for All of 2026
Magic Kingdom Park’s centerpiece attraction is entering a year-long transformation that will affect guest experiences throughout 2026. Construction crews began repainting Cinderella Castle on January 28, launching a massive restoration project that won’t be complete until late 2026—meaning virtually every visitor this year will encounter construction barriers, equipment, and an incomplete castle.
Year-Long Construction Timeline

Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the Cinderella Castle repaint will continue through the end of 2026 without providing a more specific completion date. The vague timeline means families visiting Magic Kingdom Park anytime in 2026—from winter through fall—will see the icon in various stages of construction rather than its finished form.
BlogMickey reported that painting officially commenced on January 28 when crews applied gray coating to a small upper section of the structure, replacing the light pink 50th anniversary color. Theme park journalist Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) documented the change on X (formerly Twitter):

Whether the visible gray is primer or final paint remains uncertain, but the application confirms the multi-month project is underway.
Work Already Visible on Cinderella Castle
Construction has already altered Magic Kingdom Park experiences before significant physical work even began. Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters vanished from Let the Magic Begin, the park-opening show performed on Cinderella Castle’s stage. Walt Disney World Resort removed pyrotechnics from the show entirely to accommodate construction safety requirements.

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire performances were rescheduled to later in the day, surrendering morning hours to construction crews who need castle access when crowds are smaller. The schedule adjustment means guests arriving early to Magic Kingdom Park miss an entertainment offering that was previously available throughout the day.
These changes are just the beginning—not the end—of guest impact. Cranes will eventually encircle Cinderella Castle, though they haven’t arrived yet due to delays draining the moat where construction equipment will be positioned. Once cranes appear, they’ll dominate sightlines and photographic opportunities for months.
Five-Year Pink Problem Being Fixed

Cinderella Castle’s pink appearance has lingered far longer than intended. Walt Disney World Resort painted the structure light pink in 2021 for the resort’s 50th anniversary celebrations, replacing the iconic analog clock with a large golden “50” medallion. When anniversary festivities officially ended, the medallion was removed, but the pink paint remained—for years.
Walt Disney World Resort announced in the summer of 2025 that Cinderella Castle would be repainted throughout 2026 to restore its original color scheme. The updated design honors the pre-anniversary light gray and blue details. Previously released concept art shows the intended final appearance.

Small paint test patches appeared earlier this month to assess color accuracy before full-scale application began.
