Location of Prior Deaths Near Magic Kingdom Now Closed Weekdays

Bay Lake Tower is one of our favorite places to stay at Walt Disney World.

The location alone — right next to Magic Kingdom, monorail access steps from the lobby, California Grill one building over — is hard to beat. The rooftop pool. The Top of the World Lounge for DVC members. The ability to walk between Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary like they are one connected resort, which in many ways they are.

We have stayed in that complex more than once and the upper-floor skyway bridge between the two buildings is one of those small details that makes the whole thing feel seamless. Which is why we want to flag that the bridge is currently restricted during weekday daytime hours, because finding out at the bridge is not how you want to start a resort morning. There is also broader context around this complex from the past several months that we want to address thoughtfully, because some of our readers have been following those stories and we think it is worth acknowledging directly.

The Bridge Restriction, Explained Simply

The skyway bridge connecting Bay Lake Tower to the Contemporary Resort is closed to guests between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are not affected. Outside that weekday window, the bridge is operating normally.

During the restricted hours, guests can still move between the two buildings by using the first-floor connection. It is there, it works, it just requires going down rather than across. Disney has not provided a public explanation for the restriction or a timeline for when the bridge will return to full access. For guests with stays coming up at Bay Lake Tower or the Contemporary, the first-floor workaround is the thing to know before you arrive.

For guests whose days are mostly park days, the impact of this restriction is fairly minimal — you are at Magic Kingdom most of the time anyway. For guests who like to spend time moving between the buildings during resort mornings or afternoons on weekdays, it adds a small navigation step that is worth being prepared for rather than surprised by.

The Larger Context Around This Resort Complex

We want to handle this part carefully because it deserves care.

Between mid-October and early November 2025, a series of tragic incidents at Walt Disney World Resort hotels resulted in the deaths of multiple guests. At least five separate fatalities were reported across roughly four weeks, occurring at the Contemporary Resort, Bay Lake Tower, Fort Wilderness, Pop Century, and Saratoga Springs. The causes across the incidents varied, including medical emergencies and deaths ruled by the Orange County Medical Examiner as suicide. Law enforcement investigated each case separately and officials consistently reported no indications of foul play in any of them.

Disney did not comment publicly on any of the incidents, which is consistent with its standard policy of deferring to law enforcement. The close timing of the events drew significant attention from the Disney community and from media more broadly, with some of that visibility coming from social media accounts that track and report emergency dispatch activity in real time.

Authorities and outside experts were clear throughout that the incidents were unrelated to one another. Walt Disney World is a massive property — over 40 square miles, tens of millions of visitors per year — and a destination of that scale will inevitably see medical emergencies and fatalities over time. What distinguished the October and November 2025 period was the concentration of incidents within a short window, not any identified pattern or systemic concern at the resort.

Two of the five incidents occurred at the Contemporary complex. We are not drawing direct lines between those events and the current bridge restriction because we do not know that connection exists. What we are doing is making sure our readers have the full picture of why this corner of the resort has been in a more thoughtful spotlight recently, because we think you deserve that context.

What This Means If You Are Staying Here

Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary are still among the best places to stay at Walt Disney World. That has not changed. California Grill is still up there on the fifteenth floor being excellent. The monorail to Magic Kingdom is still the best commute to a theme park that exists. The location is still unmatched.

The bridge restriction is a real but manageable inconvenience during weekday daytime hours, with a first-floor alternative available. Know it before you go, adjust your mental map of the resort accordingly, and it will not derail anything.

Disney’s on-site emergency response infrastructure is extensive. Paramedics are stationed throughout the property. Local fire and medical services are closely partnered with the resort. Each of the late 2025 incidents was handled and investigated by those services. We mention this not to minimize what happened — nothing minimizes it — but because we know some of our readers are processing those events and are wondering whether this resort complex feels right for a family vacation. We think it does. And we think you should go in with all the information rather than none of it.

We will update if Disney provides any information about the bridge restriction timeline. Our full Bay Lake Tower and Contemporary Resort guide is on the site with dining options, amenity details, and everything else worth knowing before you check in. Go read it, plan your trip, and come find us when you are ready to talk about California Grill reservations.
