Legendary British Actor ‘Nearing a Deal’ for Iconic Role in ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series

The much-anticipated Harry Potter television series on HBO is taking shape, and it seems like the magic is just beginning.

Set to be a decade-long adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, the show promises to bring a fresh take while maintaining the essence of the Wizarding World. While it won’t replace the iconic films, which grossed billions worldwide, it will introduce a whole new generation to the world of Hogwarts.

Casting rumors for the show have been swirling for months, and recent updates have ignited fan excitement. One of the most shocking announcements came when it was revealed that John Lithgow, the legendary actor known for his roles in  and Dexter, will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore.

Lithgow’s casting marks a significant shift from the previous portrayals of the character, with British actors Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, and Jude Law all having previously stepped into the shoes of the wise Hogwarts headmaster.

Now, British actor Nick Frost, best known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, is in talks to play Rubeus Hagrid, the lovable half-giant groundskeeper of Hogwarts. While nothing is confirmed, Deadline reports that Frost is “nearing a deal”.

Frost’s name comes after previous speculation surrounding Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein. However, it looks like Frost might be the one chosen to bring Hagrid to life once again. The actor’s background in comedy and his down-to-earth persona make him a wise choice to follow in the footsteps of the late Robbie Coltrane.

Coltrane’s portrayal in the eight films remains iconic, but Frost could bring a new twist to the character while honoring his legacy.

HBO, as expected, has declined to confirm any details about Frost’s involvement, stating that they will only announce casting decisions once deals are finalized. A similar statement was made earlier this year when Lithgow was in talks to join the series, but his role as Dumbledore is now confirmed.

Despite the lack of official confirmation, Frost’s recent Instagram post, in which he hinted that something exciting was happening, saying, “What a bloody lovely day! It’s happening, it’s actually happening. Stay cool” only fuels the speculation.

While there’s still no official release date for the Harry Potter series, fans can expect it to arrive sometime in 2026. As the casting news continues to unfold, one thing is certain: the Wizarding World is back, and fans are in for a magical ride.
