Blizzard Beach is preparing to close its gates once again, with only two days left for guests to enjoy its snowy slopes and sandy shores before September 8. That means attractions like Summit Plummet, Toboggan Racers, and Melt-Away Bay will soon pause operations, leaving Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon as the single water park option this fall.
For the past several months, guests have experienced something rare across Walt Disney World Resort: the ability to explore all six parks at once. Since May 21, both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have been open together—something that hadn’t happened since 2019. This summer pairing gave guests the choice of a frosty ski retreat or a tropical island escape, alongside the four main theme parks.
This overlap was part of a unique rhythm that has emerged since the pandemic. Traditionally, Disney’s water parks rotate operations, with only one open at a time. Blizzard Beach had just celebrated its 30th anniversary in April before temporarily closing at the end of that month. Typhoon Lagoon reopened May 1, and Blizzard Beach returned on May 21, creating a rare season when both welcomed visitors simultaneously.
Hotel guests, Disney Vacation Club Members, Annual Passholders, and cast members all enjoyed a special perk during this period, too. In 2024, Disney Parks Blog announced that beginning in 2025, complimentary water park access would be available on a Resort hotel guest’s check-in day—a benefit that added extra magic to a summer already filled with unique opportunities.
Blizzard Beach’s themed slopes have long been a seasonal favorite, with attractions like Tike’s Peak offering fun for younger visitors and thrill rides such as Summit Plummet drawing more adventurous guests. These water parks have always served as a more relaxed alternative to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, complementing the thrills of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
The six-park summer also coincided with another major Central Florida milestone. On May 22, Universal Orlando Resort opened its highly anticipated Epic Universe, just one day after Disney welcomed back Blizzard Beach to complete its summer lineup.
Across the Walt Disney World Resort, 2025 continues to bring change. Frontierland is preparing for its next era, DinoLand U.S.A. is being transformed into Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing to welcome Monstropolis. Guests also recently said goodbye to the Muppets—at least for now.
Despite rising ticket costs, the rotational approach for the water parks remains in place. This summer highlighted both the excitement of having all six parks open at once and the challenges of balancing seasonal closures.
As Blizzard Beach prepares to go offline, the question remains: will this seasonal closure help Disney gear up for the holidays? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
