REPORT: Jungle Cruise, Multiple Other Classic Disney Park Attractions Facing Total Demolition

Two classic Disney attractions are on the chopping block — one confirmed, the other increasingly expected to follow.

The shift comes as Disney continues to prioritize large-scale expansions and IP-driven lands, often at the expense of legacy rides that once defined its parks.

Jungle Cruise has long been one of those staples.

The boat-based attraction takes guests through stylized jungle scenes filled with animatronic animals, including elephants, crocodiles, and tigers. Each ride is led by a live skipper, delivering a deliberately pun-heavy script that has become central to its identity.

Despite updates over the years, the core experience has remained largely unchanged.

That consistency has helped Jungle Cruise endure across multiple parks, from Magic Kingdom to Tokyo Disneyland, where it operates as Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions following a 2014 refresh.

Now, its future at one resort is in doubt.

Confirmed Closure Raises Bigger Questions

Earlier this week, The Oriental Land Company confirmed that Aquatopia will permanently close this September at Tokyo DisneySea.

The attraction, which opened in 2001, uses a trackless ride system beneath shallow water to create the illusion of free movement.

Its closure clears space for a new development within the park’s Port Discovery area.

Concept art released in 2025 had already previewed changes to that section of the park, with Aquatopia notably absent. At the time, no replacement attraction or intellectual property was confirmed.

Other nearby rides, including the Tokyo DisneySea Electric Railway and Nemo & Friends SeaRider, appeared to remain.

Attention quickly turned to a second set of images.

Those visuals outlined a potential rework of Adventureland at Tokyo Disneyland, featuring newer Disney and Pixar franchises such as Moana, Up, and The Incredibles.

Several long-standing attractions were missing entirely.

Jungle Cruise Rumors Gain Momentum

Jungle Cruise was one of them.

The concept art also appeared to remove the Enchanted Tiki Room and the Swiss Family Treehouse, suggesting a significant overhaul of the land rather than a minor update.

Local reports in Japan have since suggested that Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions could be next to close, though no official announcement has been made.

Seasonal programming has added to the speculation, with fans interpreting the messaging as unusually sentimental.

Another added, “That means this is starting to look suspicious too, huh.”

That’s pretty meaningful, huh~
As if it’s about to disappear soon

One wrote: “A tour in the jungle passing on the “most important thing” feels almost like making one last memory, kinda bittersweet. If I get a sticker, I should probably keep it safe. Waves of change are probably coming, but it’s sad to think the classic cruises might disappear.”

The reaction reflects growing concern about how the resort handles legacy attractions.

In recent years, it has replaced several originals rather than refurbishing them. Its version of Space Mountain is being rebuilt entirely, while Grand Circuit Raceway (its version of Autopia) closed permanently to make way for Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast in 2017.

Even existing rides have seen major overlays.

“it’s a small world” has hosted temporary Marvel-themed additions, marking a shift toward franchise integration.

There are also broader changes under discussion.

Reports earlier this year suggested that a third park — often referred to as Tokyo DisneySky — could be back in consideration, despite previous denials from The Oriental Land Company.

Do you think Tokyo Disney Resort should replace Jungle Cruise?
