Magic Interrupted: Disneyland Guest Searched by Secret Service Over JD Vance Situation
A Disneyland Resort guest recently shared a surprising and invasive experience at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa, which has left many Disney Parks fans questioning the intersection of politics and security at The Happiest Place on Earth. The guest described being subjected to a Secret Service search upon arriving at the same Deluxe Disneyland Resort hotel where Vice President JD Vance was staying.
The controversy surrounding Vance’s visit had already sparked debates on social media. The Vice President, known for his vocal opposition to immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ community, faced backlash from Disney Parks fans who believed his presence at Disneyland Resort contradicted the inclusive values the company stands for. While many criticized and protested his visit, others took to social media to share their personal experiences with the added security measures that came with it.
One TikTok user, @aliahtamez, recounted her experience of being searched by Secret Service personnel when she arrived at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa.
@aliahtamez Not on my bingo card😂 #disneyland #secretservice #jdvance #grandcalifornianhotel
“I just got searched by Secret Service at Disneyland,” the guest explained in her video. “Right now, I’m staying at the Grand and, apparently, JD Vance is, too.”
She went on to explain how the security process began as soon as they entered the Disney Resort hotel, with Secret Service officers checking every car that arrived.
“They were searching all of our cars when we came in,” the guest said. “We had to open our trunks and everything. [They] searched all of our bags, not manually, but through a security scanner, which was crazy.”
The increased security presence at Disneyland Resort didn’t stop at the Secret Service. According to the guest, the resort also seemed to increase its staffing.
“There’s been more managers than I’ve ever seen in my life at Disneyland,” the TikToker said.
As expected, many viewers were angry that JD Vance could impact thousands of other guests’ vacations.
“I would legit cancel my vacation!” @missjazzyru wrote. “Allll that money to have to deal with that? Hell to the no!”
“I’d be soooo annoyed if that happened to me, and yet there’s absolutely nothing we could do about it,” said @bestfloot.
Others voiced concerns beyond the inconvenience of the searches, with some arguing that JD Vance shouldn’t have been welcomed at Disneyland Resort.
“I just left my Google review for Disneyland,” @ebrod26 commented. “I suggest we all do.”
“Nothing like going to Disney as the VP when probably a few thousand feet away an immigrant is being kidnapped by a masked plain clothes ICE agent,” @fridayelectric replied.
