The dragons are still there…but the front door is shut. Universal Epic Universe just closed the immersive entrance to one of its five themed lands.
A Park Built Around Its Portals
Universal Epic Universe opened on May 22, 2025, and quickly became one of the most talked-about theme park debuts in recent memory. The park’s entire identity is built around Celestial Park, a sweeping central hub connecting four immersive worlds through theatrical portal experiences.

Step through the right archway, and you’re transported into How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. The transition is part of the magic, engineered to feel like crossing into another world entirely rather than simply walking into another section of a theme park.
On Monday, though, that experience disappeared for one of the four lands.
Barricades Up, Guests Rerouted

X (formerly Twitter) user @thatdisneyboi arrived at Universal Epic Universe on March 9 to find the How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk portal completely blocked off and photographed the scene. The barricades were in place on both sides of the structure — at the Celestial Park entrance and the Isle of Berk exit — with signage directing guests to alternate, considerably less atmospheric routes in and out of the land.

Universal Orlando Resort stayed quiet on the matter publicly, but knowledgeable Central Florida theme park fans offered some explanation in the replies. @DerekWMCook suggested routine upkeep ahead of a busy season was the likely driver:
I imagine they are repairing the portal’s LEDs before Spring break season. I recall the lower LEDs of Burk were particularly damaged badly by guests and not working.

@Bentleys_Enigma reinforced that the shutdown appeared planned rather than reactive:
The walls are themed. It’s planned maintenance inside the portals. You can still enter the portal through the exit.

Universal Orlando Resort has not confirmed a reopening date for the portal. How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk itself remains fully accessible through the alternate walkway nearby, just without the grand entrance guests expect.
