Home Remedies For That Disney World-Induced Heat Rash, From a Native Floridian

When you think of Walt Disney World in the summer, you may think of Mickey Mouse-shaped ice cream treats, sunscreen, and lots of cold water.

However, you may think of the hot weather, the bright Florida sun, and the humidity. It’s the perfect combination for sweat, one of the biggest dampers on a day spent at Walt Disney World.

Unfortunately, it’s also the perfect combination for heat rash.

Heat rash is a minor skin condition caused by blocked sweat ducts, trapping sweat beneath the skin. It’s uncomfortable and itchy but isn’t pressing or major. It also usually goes away on its own, especially once the victim enters a cooler environment.

Still, it’s not what anyone wants to deal with while visiting a Disney park.

Creams, Ointments, and Topical Solutions, Oh My!

One great remedy to use to fight the symptoms of heat rash is a calamine lotion. It’ll soothe the itchiness, making it easier to wait the condition out.

Another excellent choice is a hydrocortisone cream, which will also help relieve the symptoms associated with heat rash.

Antihistamines are also a great choice, especially if you’ve returned to your Disney resort hotel room. Both oral and topical over-the-counter antihistamines will also treat the itchy feeling that comes along with a heat rash.
