Guest’s Unthinkable Act on Disney World’s ‘Toy Story’ Ride Sparked an Insane Trend

A guest started an incredible trend at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida last summer. Here’s what happened.

Disney World is full of iconic rides and attractions, with the theme park resort featuring a massive selection of thrilling and high-tech roller coasters. However, a lot of Disney World’s “magic” is found within the resort’s slower experiences.

Rides like the Walt Disney World Railroad, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” and Peter Pan’s Flight are some of the most popular and beloved experiences at the resort, mostly due to Disney’s dedication to theming and immersion.

While Disney features a vast selection of rides, few attractions allow guests to take their fate into their own hands quite like Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin challenges guests with a gauntlet of robot and alien enemies. It is one part dark ride and one part shooting arcade, where guests use their blasters to shoot at a variety of targets in an attempt to rack up the highest score possible.

While not incredibly advanced or complex, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin remains one of the most popular rides at Walt Disney World because it’s so accessible. The ride also encourages friendly competition between guests.

Scores are divided into specific categories. Guests who achieve the top score of 999,999 are called “Galactic Heroes.”

However, a new challenge has become quite popular, with one guest managing to achieve Galactic Hero twice at the same time.

Each car on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin features two blasters, allowing up to two guests to face off against each other. If a guest happens to be riding alone, one of the blasters will go unused. However, truly dedicated space cadets still use both blasters even if they are riding by themselves.

Last year, Reddit user Worried_Dot_3220 shared an image online showing off their incredible blaster abilities, reaching Galactic Hero on both sides.

“I guess you can say I take things seriously,” said the guest in the post. This is undoubtedly one of the coolest and most unique challenges guests can partake in during their time at Walt Disney World.

Not only was this guest able to achieve Galactic Hero twice in one go, but this accomplishment inspired other guests to do the same.

Reddit user Caderjames also shared a few photos on the Walt Disney World community page, revealing that they, too, had managed to achieve double Galactic Hero status.

Getting to 999,999 by yourself is challenging enough, but being coordinated and skilled enough to do it twice at the same time is mind-melting, especially considering guests will have to wait in line each time if they wish to practice their shooting skills.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger can be found inside the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom, a land centered on technology and the possibilities of the future. While most of the rides and attractions here are quite dated, Tomorrowland has an undeniable charm that makes it feel incredibly special and unique.

Alongside Buzz Lightyear, guests can also ride Space Mountain or hop aboard a futuristic transportation service known as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.

For those with a little more bravery, Astro Orbitor offers guests the chance to fly high above the rest of the park on speedy rockets. Perhaps Tomorrowland’s most unique and historic attraction is none other than the Carousel of Progress, an entertaining and educational journey through history.

Tomorrowland does feature one true “next-gen” experience: TRON Lightcycle / Run, an exhilarating roller coaster that’s as much fun to look at as it is to ride.

There’s no denying TRON fits perfectly into Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, acting as an icon of a park already filled with iconic attractions.

What’s your favorite attraction in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom?

Luke Dammann

When at Disney world, Luke will probably be found eating with his favorite animatronic, Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. When not at Disney World, Luke will probably be found defending Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe to people who claim "there are better restaurants"
