Gondola Construction for Walt Disney World May Be Underway

The addition of a gondola system at Walt Disney World was confirmed by Disney earlier this year.  The new gondola system is supposed to allow transportation using the system to and from various locations around Walt Disney World.  The system will have 3 different lines that will run from three different resorts to transport guests to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot’s International Gateway.  The resort locations are said to include Caribbean Beach Resort, POP Century, and Art of Animation Resort.

It looks like construction is getting underway for the system at Epcot’s International Gateway area.  There are now construction walls up around the entrance to International Gateway.  Construction vehicles haven’t been spotted yet, but getting the walls set up is usually the first step in order to get started.  The walls appear to be in the location where the permits were filed.

There have been no official updates from Walt Disney World on the construction of the gondola system and what phase the project is in.  We also don’t have confirmation as to when we can expect the entire system to be complete and ready for guests.

The choice of resorts chosen to be on the gondola system also create more questions around what we can expect for pricing at those resorts.  Caribbean Beach is a moderate resort while POP Century and Art of Animation are in the value category.  With direct access to the parks via the new gondola system, this could cause an increase in rates, updates to the category of the resort, additional villas, restaurants or other amenities to be added to the resorts, etc.  It will be interesting to see what changes the gondola system will bring to these resorts.

What do you all think of the new gondola system coming in?

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
