Disney World Removes Florida Republican Candidate From Property After Attempted Political ‘Rally’

Disney World Enforces Political Gathering Rules

Disney World recently found itself in the spotlight of Florida’s political landscape when Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback was removed from Disney property. This incident occurred at Disney Springs, where Fishback attempted to hold a political rally. However, Disney’s longstanding policy prohibits political gatherings on its property, a rule that was enforced promptly by security.

Fishback, alongside supporters, gathered in a Starbucks at Disney Springs, reportedly drawing a crowd of around 150 individuals. However, many observers noted that the actual turnout appeared significantly lower than this claim. Video footage shared on social media captured Disney security informing Fishback that they had received multiple complaints regarding the gathering. The security personnel advised him that Disney does not permit any unauthorized meetups or political activities, citing safety and security as the foremost concerns.

Despite being asked to leave, Fishback engaged in a discussion with security regarding the types of gatherings allowed. He insisted that if the complaints were related to topics such as “transgender surgeries” or “LGBTQ rights,” then the company would not intervene. Ultimately, Fishback and his group departed from Disney property without further incident.

Fishback’s Political Background

James Fishback is actively seeking the Republican nomination for Florida governor, challenging Representative Byron Donalds, who currently enjoys a lead in polling thanks to endorsements from prominent figures, including Donald Trump. Fishback has made headlines not only for his gubernatorial ambitions but also for his controversial remarks during his campaign, including statements that have drawn sharp criticism, especially those targeting his opponent.

Born and raised in Florida, Fishback has had a tumultuous professional background. After leaving Georgetown University, he worked briefly for Greenlight Capital but exited due to concerns about productivity. In 2023, he founded Azoria Partners, which focuses on investing in companies that do not prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in their policies. This focus has attracted both supporters and detractors, contributing to the polarized environment surrounding his candidacy.

Fishback stirred controversy early in his campaign when he referred to Donalds as a “slave to his donors,” a remark many found offensive. He later doubled down on the comment, causing significant backlash and discussion within political circles and the media.

Company Policies on Political Activities

Disney World maintains a strict prohibition against political demonstrations within its parks and properties. This policy is not unique to Disney; other theme parks also have similar guidelines to ensure a family-friendly environment. While political attire may be permitted, any demonstration or rally on property requires prior approval and is tightly regulated.

As a private entity, Disney has the legal right to enforce these policies, ensuring compliance with its standards for security and guest experience. The response to Fishback’s gathering aligns with Disney’s broader strategy of maintaining a neutral stance in political matters, thereby minimizing disruptions that might affect families visiting the park.

Public Reactions to the Incident

The incident involving Fishback at Disney World sparked varied reactions from the public and online communities. Many observers expressed their support for Disney’s enforcement of its policies, feeling that the theme park should remain a space free from political strife. Others criticized the removal as an infringement on First Amendment rights, arguing that political candidates should have the ability to engage with constituents in various settings.

On social media, commentary ranged from humor to indignation, with some users describing Fishback’s attempt as a publicity stunt gone awry. The scenario raises questions about the appropriateness of political actions within leisure spaces like Disney World, setting the stage for future similar incidents, as candidates may seek unconventional venues to gain visibility.

As Florida prepares for upcoming elections, the incident involving the Republican gubernatorial candidate highlights a complex interplay between politics and public spaces, with Disney World, a major tourist attraction, at the center of the discussion. Moving forward, this may influence how political figures approach campaigning in environments traditionally perceived as apolitical.

  1. Walt Disney World properties are private property. Your first amendment rights do not really apply there. And first amendment means the government cannot go after you doesn’t say anything about private businesses. There are no lows to which the GOP will not stoop. I used to consider myself a centrist. Because the Republican Party has moved so far to the right I am now a bleeding heart liberal. I will fight for the rights of the marginalized. whites are not being replaced. just because people aren’t having nine white babies anymore doesn’t mean you’re being replaced and if you think a non-English speaking undocumented immigrant is taking your job, what does that say about your skills? Racism and bigotry is expensive for everyone. Other people‘s private parts, their marriages and their lives are none of your business and yours is none of theirs unless you’re breaking the law, which actually is quite frequent among Maga GOP. Every day I see Republican party member has been arrested for possessing child, pornography, or engaging in felonious assaults or even murdering someone who is four years old. That’s the one I saw today.
