Fatality Reported At Richard Petty Driving Experience

Very sad news today from Walt Disney Resort in Florida.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident at Walt Disney World.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, the accident happened sometime Sunday afternoon.

Troopers said a male driver lost control of a Lamborghini while on the track and struck a guardrail.  His passenger died at the scene, troopers said. The driver was transported to Celebration Hospital with minor injuries.

The attraction is named for Richard Petty, 77, an iconic figure in NASCAR history with seven NASCAR Cup titles, seven Daytona 500 victories and a record 200 victories, including 27 in one season.

Four years ago, Petty Holdings introduced the exotic-car experience, where people can drive Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches. The driving packages start at $99 and go past $2,500 for a 50-lap experience with an in-car video. Promotional material says cars can reach 165 MPH.

The attraction is currently scheduled to be closed in late June.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family involved.

We will update this post as more information is available.
