Fans Divided Over Disney’s Unexpected Test Track Changes

After months of construction, concept art, and curiosity, Test Track is officially racing back into EPCOT on July 22. And while the core thrill remains, the reimagined attraction is packing in a few surprises for longtime fans and first-timers alike.

A Throwback with a Twist

Disney has leaned heavily into nostalgia this time, drawing inspiration from the beloved World of Motion attraction that once stood in Test Track’s place. The new version won’t just be about designing high-tech vehicles—it’s about exploring how transportation has evolved, with a more story-based approach than ever before.

Imagineers have kept the popular high-speed loop but infused the entire experience with nods to EPCOT’s original vision. This isn’t just a refurb—it’s a love letter to Disney history.

The Visuals Are Different—And So Are the Reactions

One of the most obvious changes guests will see is the new entrance sign. Set in the same circular space as the old one, the updated sign ditches the Chevrolet branding and instead brings General Motors back into the spotlight.

And yes, the rocks surrounding the sign have become something of a conversation piece. While some call the look modern and sleek, others say it feels out of place. Either way, it’s catching attention.

New Queue Features Suggest a Streamlined Experience

Guests will also notice fresh stanchions under the ride’s canopy, which seem to suggest Lightning Lane and standby options will both be ready to go on day one. Early MagicBand+ touchpoints are in place as well—signs that Disney’s preparing for a smooth, tech-friendly reopening.

Andrew Boardwine
