Disney Updates Haunted Mansion Ride Overnight, Guests Share New Experience

Walt Disney World Resort has made an unannounced change to the standby queue for The Haunted Mansion attraction in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom Park. The update follows several complaints from Disney Park guests.

The Haunted Mansion features an extensive outdoor standby queue that is almost entirely shaded. However, when the standby line becomes too long – as is common during the holiday season or busy summer months – guests are funneled into an extended queue that snakes around part of Liberty Square.

Following guest complaints about the blistering sunshine or pouring rain in The Haunted Mansion’s extended standby line, Walt Disney World Resort added fans to the queue. Now, Walt Disney World Resort has made some more changes. According to WDWNT, the ride’s extended queue has been relocated to the former docking space of the Liberty Square Riverboat attraction, which closed permanently in July.

After the Liberty Belle closed permanently, Walt Disney World Resort installed rolling planters in front of the former attraction entrance and docking area. Those planters have been removed, revealing the extended queue for The Haunted Mansion.

The outdoor pavilion, surrounded by construction walls on the former Rivers of America side, is now filled with stanchions, rope, and signs directing guests. The covered area will provide a much more comfortable experience for guests in the unpredictable Central Florida weather.

The Liberty Square Riverboat, the Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island welcomed their final guests in early 2025. Construction walls appeared shortly thereafter, and Walt Disney Imagineers were spotted surveying the island by boat and on foot. The Liberty Belle has been moved to a backstage maintenance dock, and its future remains uncertain.

In the months since, construction crews have drained the Rivers of America and demolished many of the buildings on Tom Sawyer Island. The attractions are being removed to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a new section of Frontierland featuring two rides inspired by Cars (2006). Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t shared a grand opening date for the new area.
