Expansion in Progress at Walt Disney World’s Cosmic Ray’s

Cosmic Ray’s is a popular quick-service dining location in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World.  An expansion project is currently underway at the restaurant.  The bathrooms at the locations are being expanded and remodeled.  While the work is being completed on the bathrooms, guests are directed to use the restrooms at Mickey’s Star Traders.  The restaurant is also adding more outdoor covered seating.  This will allow the location to serve and accommodate more guests, as well as larger groups that may have trouble finding tables indoors.

The restaurant is expected to stay open during the entire project.  This is one of the biggest dining locations in Tomorrowland.  It is also a dining location that offers indoor, air-conditioned seating which makes it an even more attractive place to stop for a break.  The construction is expected to wrap up sometime during the summer.  We will keep you posted on the progress and updates regarding this change.

Rides and attractions aren’t the only places to have fun at Walt Disney World, in fact some of your best park experiences and favorite memories could very well come from dining in Disney. The restaurants at Disney World are destinations in themselves, with some of the best theming and the most delicious food. There are amazing restaurants all over Walt Disney World, at the resorts, the parks and Disney Springs. But we’re going to focus on dining in the most magical park at Disney World, the Magic Kingdom. Here are 6 of the top reasons why we love dining in the Magic Kingdom.

6. On the Go

There is so much to see and do at Magic Kingdom that a leisurely sit down meal isn’t always in the plans, especially when there are so many mountains to conquer. Thankfully, Disney knows guests may just want to grab something quick, and there are a ton of great places to stop for a quick bite. There’s Casey’s Corner for hot dogs, Sleepy Hollow for waffles or funnel cake, or Pinocchio’s Village Haus for tasty flatbreads and bread sticks. Or guests can grab some Mickey shaped snacks for a quick snack like a Mickey ice cream bar, or there is the infamous Dole Whip at Aloha Isle. Whether it’s a sit down quick service location, a counter location, or a cart, Magic Kingdom has plenty of options for diners on the go.

5. Dine in a Disney Movie

Guests can step right into a Disney movie at a number of the dining locations in Magic Kingdom, and for Disney fans, it’s a dream come true. One of the most popular dining experiences at Magic Kingdom is eating at Be Our Guest restaurant. During breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests can dine in the West Wing, or the grand ballroom where Belle and the Beast had their famous dance, and their host, the Beast himself will even make an appearance. The décor is taken right out of Beauty and the Beast, from the Beast’s portrait on the wall with the claw marks slashed through it, to the cherub mural on the ceiling of the ballroom. Guests can even try the Grey Stuff!

There are other locations where guests can feel like they’re dining in a movie, such as Tony’s where Lady and Tramp shared their plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

4. Special Experiences

Magic Kingdom offers a few special dining experiences like the Firework Dessert Party at the Tomorrowland Terrace and the Festival of Fantasy Dining Package. The Dessert Party includes delectable desserts, pastries and beverages with VIP seating to view Wishes explode in vibrant colors over the castle. The Festival of Fantasy Dining Package includes lunch at Tony’s and VIP seating for the Festival of Fantasy in the afternoon. These experiences sprinkle just a little extra pixie dust on your dining experiences at Magic Kingdom.

3. The Food

Perhaps the most obvious reason as to why we love dining in the Magic Kingdom is the food itself! Whether it’s dining at a quick service location or a table service reservation, there is something delicious and appealing for every palette. If Tex-Mex is your cuisine of choice, head over to Pecos Bill’s in Frontierland for nachos, burritos and taco burgers. For the adventurous diner, Skipper Canteen is the place to make a dining reservation. There you’ll find some delicious dishes such as Trader Sam’s Head on Shrimp, and the African inspired chocolate cake Kungaloosh! All the menus are available online or on the My Disney Experience app, so you can check out what each place offers before making the difficult decision of where to eat.

2. Characters

What can make a Disney dining experience even better? Meeting Disney characters! Instead of waiting in line to meet a character, or using a FastPass+, make a dining reservation. At a character dining experience you can enjoy your meal while you wait for the characters to come greet you! At Magic Kingdom The Crystal Palace is the place to meet the cutest characters around, Winnie the Pooh and his friends. If it’s princesses you simply must meet, then make a reservation for Cinderella’s Royal Table.

1. The Castle

The top reason we love dining in Magic Kingdom is dining in the most beautiful and magical place in the park, inside Cinderella Castle. The only thing better than taking a picture in front of the castle, is having a royal feast there among all your favorite princesses. Cinderella and her Disney princess friends are there to meet and greet guests as they dine in the most regal surroundings, and there are plenty of photo opportunities as well.

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips… More »
