After Mass Complaints, Epic Universe Finally Backtracks On Controversial Dining Restriction

Epic Universe has backtracked on a controversial dining policy.

Since opening in May 2025, Universal’s Epic Universe has made a bold impression. The park is divided into five immersive lands – Celestial Park, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe – each of which has garnered almost overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans.

Guests have praised the detail and creativity throughout the park, especially in the Ministry of Magic’s grand queue set pieces (which are arguably better than the ride itself), while Epic Universe’s character meet-and-greets have also been hailed as some of Universal’s best to date.

But not all feedback has been quite so glowing. A common criticism centers on the lack of shade throughout the park, particularly in Celestial Park and Isle of Berk. In Orlando’s intense heat, the absence of covered walkways or waiting areas has frustrated many visitors.

Other complaints include operational quirks, including the park’s relatively early closing time, and one restaurant’s controversial rules around takeout food.

Epic Universe Updates Controversial Food Policy

As Disney Dining previously reported, guests at Pizza Moon in Celestial Park have experienced issues in recent weeks when trying to take leftover pizza out of the restaurant.

While takeout boxes were initially available, guests found themselves unable to box up uneaten slices as of earlier this month.

Many assumed it was due to operational limitations or cost-cutting measures. Regardless of the reason, the policy was seen as inconvenient, especially for guests trying to avoid food waste.

As of this week, however, that policy seems to have changed.

Pizza Moon to-go boxes, manufactured prior to the park opening, are a very functional way to transport your pizza throughout your celestial travels!

Guests eating at Pizza Moon can now request a to-go box – which features a yellow moon with a pizza slice for an eye, inspired by the 1902 silent film Le Voyage dans la Lune – provided they’ve eaten at least one slice from their pizza. The new boxes are branded with the restaurant’s logo and allow guests to carry leftovers out of the restaurant, and even the park.

The change appears to have been implemented quietly, but guests have since shared photos and details confirming the updated approach. It’s a small adjustment, but one that’s being welcomed as a positive step toward more flexible guest service.
