Disney has been rolling out one change after another, and not all of them have been well-received by fans. Between construction walls, attraction closures, and rising prices, it feels like the sparkle that once defined Walt Disney World is starting to dim.
Nowhere is that more evident than at EPCOT. Once the park that blended imagination and innovation effortlessly, EPCOT has become a sore spot for many longtime visitors. Disney’s latest decisions have left fans questioning whether the park’s famous festivals still carry the same charm—or if they’ve started to lose their spark entirely.
The EPCOT That Fans Fell in Love With
EPCOT was always the most unique of Disney’s parks. It didn’t rely on fairytales or movie characters; it celebrated progress, discovery, and global culture. You could soar above the world on Soarin’ Around the World, explore the cosmos on Mission: SPACE, or jam out with Star-Lord on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Then, you could wander through World Showcase, sampling food and traditions from around the globe. That balance of futuristic fun and cultural exploration made EPCOT stand out. The festivals are built on that foundation, giving guests even more reasons to return.
When Familiar Becomes Too Familiar
For years, EPCOT’s rotating festivals—like Flower & Garden, Food & Wine, and Festival of the Arts—were reasons to plan extra trips. But lately, it’s hard to ignore how similar they’ve all begun to feel. The same booths serve the same dishes, the same decorations reappear year after year, and even the music and entertainment rarely change.
For Annual Passholders and locals, it’s starting to feel like déjà vu. If you went last year—or even three years ago—you’ve already seen it all. That sense of discovery that once defined EPCOT has given way to a predictable routine, and fans are starting to burn out.
When Fun Turns to Frustration
Then there’s the crowd issue. EPCOT’s festivals have ballooned into massive events that push the park past its limits. Long food lines stretch across walkways, and navigating the World Showcase can feel like trying to swim upstream.
Guests balancing drinks and small plates weave through heavy crowds just to reach attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. The vibe that once felt leisurely and exploratory now feels stressful and cramped. Festivals were supposed to celebrate culture—not test your patience.
The Fix EPCOT Desperately Needs
Still, Disney has plenty of ways to turn things around. Mixing up menus more often, adding new dishes from different regions, or rotating booth locations would make each visit feel fresh again.
The company could also ease crowding by spreading the booths across more of the park, rather than keeping everything in World Showcase. Introducing mobile ordering for festival food could reduce those painful wait times. Most importantly, EPCOT needs to feel surprising again—whether that means pop-up entertainment, seasonal events, or exclusive new experiences that keep fans coming back.
There’s Still Hope for the Magic
EPCOT’s festivals don’t need a total overhaul—just a reminder of what made them special in the first place. The creativity, innovation, and sense of global wonder that built the park remain.
Disney just has to tap back into that spirit. Fans want to fall in love with EPCOT again—they just need a reason to.
