NEWS REPORT: Fight Breaks Out in EPCOT Area, Guest Unresponsive

On Sunday evening, two emergency calls drew law enforcement and medical personnel to the EPCOT Resort area, near Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. The back-to-back alerts, which involved a reported battery followed minutes later by a “person down,” occurred during what has already been a tragic two months for Walt Disney World Resort.

Sunday’s news comes after a troubling two months at the Central Florida vacation destination. In mid-October, authorities responded to a devastating tragedy at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Early rumors suggested a Monorail-related accident, but law enforcement later clarified that a guest, 31-year-old Summer Equitz, had died by suicide after a fall inside the hotel’s lobby area. Her family had reported her missing after she traveled to Orlando unexpectedly.

Just days later, a second guest passed away at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. While the incident drew national attention due to its proximity to Equitz’s death, investigators later confirmed that the unnamed individual died of natural causes.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort saw a second tragedy on October 21, when 28-year-old Matthew Cohn died by suicide after falling from his 12th-floor room in Bay Lake Tower. His stay had begun the night before, and he reportedly paid in cash.

In November, two more guests died at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, both from apparent medical emergencies.

Fight and Medical Emergency Reported on Sunday

Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, the X account @WDWActiveCrime, known for monitoring scanner activity at Walt Disney World Resort, reported that law enforcement was dispatched to the EPCOT Resort Area for a “Battery (Unwanted Touching or Striking Someone).”

Only twelve minutes later, a second emergency alert was logged. Paramedics were directed to the same general location after a call reporting a “person down.” The address matched the one associated with the earlier battery call, placing the emergency somewhere near Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, a short walk from EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance.

Although details remain limited, a “person down” call can indicate anything from fainting or dehydration to a more serious medical episode. Walt Disney World Resort typically does not release statements regarding guest medical issues unless foul play is suspected.

As of now, authorities have not announced whether the two calls were connected, nor have they shared updates on the condition of the individual involved in the medical response.

  1. Especially since 2020 (well after the parks reopened after the pandemic anyway) You see fights at the TTC, in the lots, and even in the parks, especially before, during, and after the fireworks, quite often anymore. Whether we like it or not, the parks, resorts and magic of Disney has really shifted. Im happy my kids are young adults with lives, because when my wife and I go to our 2nd home in Celebration, we skip the parks entirely now! Everyone is sooo entitled and rude. We all paid a ton to be there, but that doesn’t mean anyone is owed anything. Its just work doing the parks now, why bother anymore?😮‍💨
