After 61 Years, Disneyland To Rebuild Original Attraction
A significant chapter in Disneyland Resort’s history is about to be rewritten. After 61 years, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is set to undergo a significant rebuild as part of a months-long refurbishment starting on April 28, 2025. The iconic attraction, which has been a staple of Disneyland Park’s Adventureland since 1963, will be getting much-needed updates as part of its ongoing legacy.
The Enchanted Tiki Room holds a special place in Disney lore. Not only was it the first attraction at a Disney park to feature audio-animatronics, but it also introduced a whole new way for guests to experience entertainment. Originally conceived as a dinner show, it became an instant hit thanks to its catchy tunes and innovative technology.
While some fans have found the “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room” song a bit grating over time, the attraction is still a cherished piece of Disney Park history. It inspired similar attractions in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort and Tokyo Disneyland (though that version has been updated to The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha e Komo Mai!).
Even though the Enchanted Tiki Room’s popularity has waned somewhat, it’s still a significant part of Disneyland’s legacy, and Imagineers are showing their love for this classic as the Southern California Disney park prepares for its 70th anniversary. As part of the major refurbishment, Imagineers will not only focus on standard maintenance and technological updates but will also rebuild the Tangaroa Tree animatronic.
The Tangaroa Tree, which has stood outside Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room since its opening in 1963, has seen better days. The tree’s face used to move and speak to guests while its branches bloomed with a special effect, but it hasn’t worked in years. According to a new report, Imagineers have digitally scanned the original tree to ensure it is faithfully rebuilt, maintaining its original charm and magic for a new generation of guests.
Disneyland Resort has not yet provided an exact reopening date, but they have announced that Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room will return in “late summer” 2025.
