So, these are the cutest things ever! Time to get that Disney gear ready to go! Work up some magic with these “ear-resistibly” cute DIY Mickey Button Ears. Thanks to the instructions below as shared by Family.Disney.com, we can get to work and have cute ears to show off in the parks!
What You’ll Need:
- Mickey Template
- Cardstock
- Scissors
- Fabric
- Pen or marker
- Hot glue
- Sewing machine or needle and thread (optional)
- Foam sheet, about 2mm thick
- Cotton batting
- Headband
- Medium and small buttons
How To Make It:
1. Download, print, and cut out the Mickey template. You can adjust the size, if needed. Make sure the ears are a little larger than the size you want. Then, cut the ears out of the template. You will use them as a stencil.

2. Trace 4 ears onto the fabric and cut them out.
3. Sandwich 2 ears together and sew along the edge all the way around, except for a 2” section. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand sew or use glue. Repeat with the other 2 ear pieces. Then turn each ear inside out.
4. Cut 2 smaller circles out of the foam sheet that are a little smaller than the ears, so they fit inside.
5. Once cut, roll the foam pieces and slide 1 into the opening of each ear. Flatten, once inside.
6. Using cotton batting, fill each ear around the inside edges, center, and on either side of the foam piece. But don’t overstuff!
7. Using the glue (or a needle and thread), close the opening of each ear. Glue this part of the ear onto your headband. Repeat for the other ear. Let dry.
8. The medium buttons will be the Mickey heads and the small buttons will be the ears. Arrange into Hidden Mickeys on the fabric ears, and start gluing. Be careful not to touch the glue. Let dry, and enjoy!
9. If you’re adding a bow to the ears, following these steps. Cut 2 rectangular pieces of fabric in a coordinating color—1 about 5” x 8” and 1 about 1” x 3”.
10. Lay the larger rectangle flat. Take a small amount of cotton batting and flatten it on the center of the fabric.
11. Run a line of glue at the top of the fabric and fold over about 1” onto the batting. Repeat on the bottom of the fabric.
12. Run a line of glue onto the side of the fabric and fold over to the center of the rectangle. Repeat with the other side, overlapping the fabric a little.
13. Pinch the center sides of the “pillow” you just made and glue it at a few points in the center to keep the bow shape.
14. Lay the smaller rectangle flat. Run a line of glue along the top and fold over 1/3 of the width of the fabric. Repeat with the bottom to make a skinny band of fabric. This will go over the center of the bow.
15. Add a dab of glue at the center of the headband between the ears and attach the bow.
16. Attach the skinny band of fabric around the center of the bow and glue in place on the underside of the headband. This will secure the bow onto the ears. Attach a button, with a dab of glue, to the front center to add a little extra cuteness.
Note: All cutting and gluing should be done by an adult.
