Dollywood Parks & Resorts has now started rolling out a new cashless payment system across parts of its property portfolio, beginning today with Dollywood’s Splash Country water park. While the main Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge is continuing to accept paper currency, guests visiting Splash Country or staying at select resort hotels this summer will need to prepare for a different payment experience.

The phased rollout marks one of the largest operational adjustments the resort has introduced in years and affects several locations frequented by thousands of vacationers each season. Dollywood’s Splash Country opened for the 2026 season this morning with a completely cashless system now in effect throughout the water park.

Since debuting in 2001, Splash Country has become one of the resort’s most popular warm-weather destinations, featuring attractions like Wild River Falls and the wave-filled Mountain Waves pool. Beginning today, guests can no longer use cash for purchases anywhere inside the park.

The transition currently applies only to Splash Country and select resort hotels, meaning visitors heading to the primary Dollywood theme park can still use traditional cash payments as normal.

The next stage of the rollout will happen on June 11, when both Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort & Spa and HeartSong Lodge & Resort officially adopt cashless operations. DreamMore Resort & Spa, known for its more than 300 guest rooms, dining locations, exclusive park perks, shuttle transportation, and resort-style amenities, will move entirely to digital payments on that date.

HeartSong Lodge & Resort — the newer resort property that debuted in 2023 with its mountain lodge-inspired design — will make the same transition simultaneously. Guests visiting either resort after June 11 are being encouraged to prepare ahead of time by bringing alternative forms of payment.

At all three participating locations, guests will still have several payment options available. Credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay will all be accepted across the affected properties. For visitors who still prefer carrying cash, Dollywood has introduced an alternative solution through dedicated “Cash to Card” kiosks.

The kiosks allow guests to exchange paper currency for prepaid debit-style cards that can be used throughout the resort and anywhere major cards are accepted. Dollywood says there are no loading fees attached to the service, which could help ease concerns for guests who rely on cash while traveling.

The option may also appeal to families traveling with children. Parents can load a set amount onto a prepaid card and use it as spending money throughout the day rather than carrying loose cash inside the parks. Dollywood says the move is designed to create a more efficient and secure experience for both guests and employees.

Cashless systems generally reduce transaction times at food counters, retail stores, and quick-service locations, helping lines move faster during busy operating days. Removing cash handling can also reduce operational mistakes and simplify procedures for employees behind the scenes.

The shift mirrors changes already implemented at several major destinations across the theme park industry. Disney and Universal have both expanded cashless systems in recent years, particularly at resorts, dining locations, and entertainment venues.

Still, Dollywood’s approach has been more gradual, introducing the changes in stages rather than across the entire destination at once.

For some visitors, cash remains an important budgeting tool during vacations. Digital payments can make it easier to overspend without the physical reminder of handing over bills.

Others point to accessibility concerns, particularly for older guests or visitors who do not regularly use banking apps, mobile wallets, or debit cards. While the prepaid kiosk system offers an alternative, some guests may still find the change frustrating.

There is also discussion among longtime fans about how the shift fits into Dollywood’s identity. The park has spent decades cultivating a reputation centered around hospitality, family traditions, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to larger corporate resort destinations.

Some visitors may see the move toward fully digital payments as another sign that the resort industry as a whole is continuing to modernize at a rapid pace.

Cashless payment systems have become increasingly common across theme parks, sports arenas, hotels, and concert venues around the world. For many guests, tapping a card or phone has already replaced cash transactions in daily life.

Still, the adjustment period can vary depending on the guest. Some visitors may appreciate quicker checkout lines, while others may miss the simplicity of using cash during a family vacation. For now, guests visiting the main Dollywood theme park do not need to change their plans. Cash is still accepted throughout the flagship park in Pigeon Forge.

But visitors heading to Splash Country this summer — or checking into DreamMore Resort or HeartSong Lodge after June 11 — should expect a fully cashless experience.
