Dollywood’s Parent Company Just Made a HUGE Theme Park DealHere’s What It Means

Dollywood is celebrating its 40th anniversary with more than just new attractions—its parent company, Herschend Family Entertainment, has announced a massive expansion, acquiring over 20 theme parks, water parks, and entertainment venues across the United States.

The deal sees Herschend taking over the U.S. properties of Palace Entertainment, a subsidiary of Spain-based Parques Reunidos. With this acquisition, Herschend solidifies its position as the largest family-owned themed entertainment company in the world, further extending its influence in the industry.

A Monumental Expansion in the Theme Park Industry

The acquisition includes some of the most well-known regional amusement parks in the country, such as:

  • Kennywood (PA) – A historic amusement park famous for its classic coasters and thrilling attractions.
  • Dutch Wonderland (PA) – A family-friendly park designed for younger children.
  • Lake Compounce (CT) – The oldest amusement park in America, home to the iconic Boulder Dash wooden coaster.
  • Adventureland (IA), Castle Park (CA), and many others spanning across ten states.

These parks will now be a part of Herschend’s extensive portfolio, which already includes Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Silver Dollar City, Adventure Aquarium, Callaway Resort & Gardens, Kentucky Kingdom, Newport Aquarium, The Vancouver Aquarium, and Wild Adventures Theme Park.

Beyond its theme parks and attractions, Herschend is also home to the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters®, Herschend Entertainment Studios®, and Pink Adventure Tours®.

What’s Next for These Parks?

Herschend has stated that no immediate operational changes are planned, but this acquisition presents exciting opportunities. The company has long been known for its focus on immersive storytelling, high-quality entertainment, and exceptional guest experiences—qualities that have made Dollywood a nationally recognized destination.

With Dollywood leading the way in themed attractions and live entertainment, it’s likely that some of its guest-first approach could make its way into newly acquired parks like Kennywood and Lake Compounce. While each property has its own unique charm, Herschend’s expertise could help enhance their offerings in the future.

This acquisition couldn’t have come at a better time for Dollywood, which is already in the middle of a landmark 40th season. The park is celebrating with new shows, expansions, and the highly anticipated Dolly Parton Experience, giving fans an in-depth look at the life and legacy of the country music icon.

As Dollywood continues to grow and evolve, this latest expansion signals a bright future not just for the park but for the entire Herschend brand. Whether or not elements of Dollywood’s signature hospitality and storytelling will be incorporated into its newly acquired properties remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—this marks a major shift in the theme park industry.
