Dolly Parton Shuts Down Iconic Theme Park Location, Effective Immediately
Visitors celebrating four decades of entertainment at Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain theme park faced a surprise this week when one of its most treasured attractions was suddenly closed. The beloved Dollywood Express steam train has been taken out of service effective immediately for maintenance, impacting thousands of guests who had planned to experience this decades-old ride.
Since Dolly Parton became co-owner of the park in 1986, transforming Silver Dollar City (formerly Rebel Railroad) into Dollywood, the steam train has remained a symbol of the Tennessee theme park’s charm. The Dollywood Express offers a scenic, 20-minute journey through the Great Smoky Mountains, transporting guests back to the era when steam locomotives were vital to the region’s history.
On May 21, Dollywood announced the closure via its Instagram story: “PARK UPDATE: The Dollywood Express currently is closed for maintenance. Thank you for your understanding–we look forward to having it back on track soon! We hope you’ll enjoy our other award-winning attractions and entertainment offerings.”
The Smoky Mountain theme park’s official website notes that the train’s schedule is subject to change at any time due to maintenance needs or weather conditions like lightning. A permanent notice reads: “Special Attraction Information: The Dollywood Express schedule is subject to change and closures may also occur due to maintenance or inclement weather conditions, including lightning.”
No reopening date has been shared yet, leaving Pigeon Forge theme park guests to adjust their plans accordingly. Keep an eye on Dollywood’s official website and social media channels for updates on this and other closures around Dollywood theme park, Dollywood’s Splash Country, Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort, and Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa.
