Marvel Show Meltdown: Disney Stops Doctor Strange Performance Unexpectedly

There were technical issues galore for Doctor Strange today.

As Disney continues expanding its Marvel footprint, its theme parks have become a cornerstone for fans eager to step into the cinematic universe. Attractions such as Avengers Campus and live entertainment offerings have brought the world of superheroes to life in thrilling new ways.

Disney’s Marvel-themed attractions began with the Stark Expo expansion in Tomorrowland at Hong Kong Disneyland, followed by the debut of Avengers Campus in 2021 at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim.

The land later also opened at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris in 2022. Designed as a superhero recruitment and training hub, the land includes interactive attractions like WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and reimagined classics like the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride in Anaheim (where two new rides will also be added in the coming years).

At Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, Avengers Campus recently premiered Doctor Strange: Mystery of the Mystics, a rooftop stage show featuring Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch (originally played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU) teaming up to battle a mysterious dark force.

This new addition, which runs daily through March 2025, incorporates mystic magic and even features Agatha Harkness (as played by Kathryn Hahn on-screen), fresh from her Agatha All Along spinoff on Disney+.

However, the show met an unexpected halt today after a major technical glitch disrupted the performance.

According to DLP Report, the projections used in the show malfunctioned, dropping to what seemed like a jarring two frames per second before the performance was cut short. While technical glitches are not uncommon in live entertainment, the abrupt end is still likely to have left many fans disappointed.

A Park in Transition

This incident underscores the challenges Disney faces with its high-tech shows and attractions. Earlier this year, Walt Disney Studios Park dealt with broader technical failures due to a worldwide Microsoft server outage. The park’s entry turnstiles, show displays, and digital systems experienced widespread downtime, causing long wait times and technical mishaps. Such issues highlight the complexities of managing intricate digital systems at scale.

Walt Disney Studios Park is undergoing a significant transformation, with expansions including a World of Frozen land, a Tangled (2010)-themed ride, and a Lion King (1994)-inspired area, along with a central lake designed for nighttime shows. Despite these upgrades, the park still grapples with a reputation for mismatched attractions and budget-conscious decisions that many fans feel fall short of Disney’s usual standards.
