Disney’s Resort Nightmare — Guests Urged to Stay Away Until 2027

Disney World is known for its immersive resorts, where the theming and service often make your hotel feel like part of the vacation. But right now, one resort is going through such an intense makeover that many guests are being told to hold off on booking.

Instead of tranquil surroundings, expect scaffolding, work crews, and plenty of construction noise. The projects won’t wrap up completely until January 2027, leaving visitors with a tough decision: brave the chaos or look elsewhere.

That resort is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Usually praised for its African-inspired theming and sweeping savanna views, this deluxe hotel is now undergoing back-to-back refurbishments that will span years.

Why Animal Kingdom Lodge Stands Out

Animal Kingdom Lodge is unlike any other Disney hotel. Guests can watch giraffes and zebras grazing just outside their balconies, dine at fan-favorite restaurants like Boma and Sanaa, and soak up the atmosphere of intricately designed lobbies. It’s an experience that feels more like a destination than a place to sleep.

But with so much daily use, even Disney’s most beloved resorts need refreshes. That’s exactly what’s happening now—an ambitious multi-year project that will eventually deliver modernized rooms and polished amenities but may leave guests frustrated.

Zebra Trail Work

The disruption started in July 2025 with the refurbishment of the Zebra Trail Terrace at Jambo House. Guests arriving during this time have seen construction walls and heard the unmistakable buzz of daytime work.

While pools and restaurants remain open, it’s hardly the serene atmosphere most expect when paying deluxe rates.

Pool Closures at Kidani Village

Next came the news that the Samawati Springs Pool Slide at Kidani Village would be shut down starting September 8, 2025. Families eager for quick access to poolside fun must instead trek to Jambo House to use the Uzima Springs Pool.

This is not a dealbreaker, but it is definitely a disappointment for kids who wanted the slide right outside their room.

Guest Room Overhauls

Kidani Village itself faces an even bigger change. From October 2025 through May 2026, guest rooms will be top-to-bottom refurbished. Expect new furnishings, updated décor, and perhaps reworked layouts. While future visitors will benefit, current guests may find themselves dodging work crews in the hallways or dealing with construction noise during the day.

Then comes Jambo House. Starting in May 2026, its guest rooms will also be refurbished, with work stretching through January 2027. This means two years of overlapping projects across both sides of the resort.

Making the Best of It

If you already have a reservation, there are ways to soften the impact. Request a savanna view room to enjoy the animals outside your balcony. Spend most of your time in the parks to minimize daytime disruptions.

Take advantage of the still-open dining options, and if Kidani’s pool slide is closed, head over to Jambo’s. It’s also worth asking Disney about possible discounts, as construction sometimes means lower rates.

Worth the Wait

For many, waiting until the resort is fully refreshed may be best. By January 2027, Animal Kingdom Lodge will be sparkling again, ready for another decade of magical stays. Until then, be prepared for construction to play a starring role in your vacation.
