Splash Pad Could Soon Disappear From Disney World Hotel Experience

Walt Disney World Resort filed a construction permit for work on the splash pad at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, potentially closing the water feature to guests during maintenance.

The February 18 Notice of Commencement targets 2221C Orleans Dr, the address corresponding to the splash pad and water park area at the Moderate Disney Resort hotel.

Maintenance Work, Not Reimagining

The permit provides limited details but includes clues about the project’s scope. Disney’s Facility Asset Management filed the document rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, indicating maintenance work rather than a major overhaul.

The third-party contractor Vermana is listed in the filing. The company specializes in pool resurfacing and electrical and mechanical repairs, further suggesting refurbishment rather than redesign.

The nearby Doubloon Lagoon pool area underwent significant refurbishment in 2024, making it unlikely the main pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be affected by this work.

Closure Possible But Not Announced

Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any closures related to the permit. However, the splash pad may temporarily shut down when maintenance work begins to ensure guest safety and allow contractors access.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, the sister property, is unaffected by this Notice of Commencement. However, Walt Disney World Resort is currently refurbishing rooms throughout Riverside on a separate timeline.

The splash pad at French Quarter provides a water play area for families with young children staying at the resort. Any extended closure would temporarily eliminate that amenity, though the main Doubloon Lagoon pool would remain available.

Walt Disney World Resort typically conducts resort maintenance work during slower seasons when fewer guests are affected by amenity closures. The construction timeline has not been disclosed in the permit filing.
