After Months of Construction, Disney Reveals New Look for Polynesian Village Resort
The scaffolding is coming down at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and the results of one of the Deluxe Resort’s most active construction periods in recent memory are beginning to show.
Island Tower Roof Revealed
WDWNT reported on July 27 that the scaffolding surrounding the Island Tower building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort had finally been removed, revealing a new roof on the structure, which has been wrapped in construction equipment since April. The work was connected to a partial closure of outdoor seating at Wailulu Bar, the Island Tower’s dining location, which has operated with limited outdoor capacity throughout the refurbishment period.
The scaffolding’s removal marks one of the first visible completions in a wave of simultaneous construction projects reshaping the resort that opened alongside the Central Florida vacation destination in 1971.
The Great Ceremonial House Is Still a Work in Progress
Not everything is wrapping up. The Great Ceremonial House — the main lobby building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — remains heavily scaffolded, and active work was still underway on Monday. Construction crews were spotted installing metal paneling on vertical beams that were repainted in April, though Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t explained the purpose of the new paneling. Heavy scaffolding continues to conceal much of the remaining work on the structure.
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace Pushed to October
For guests hoping the outdoor Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace would reopen soon, the latest update from Walt Disney World Resort is disappointing. The outdoor extension of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto was originally expected to reopen in “late June” — a deadline that passed without any word from the resort. The official Walt Disney World Resort website now lists the reopening as “late October,” a significant extension from the original timeline.
Walt Disney World Resort’s official advisory to guests booking stays at the Polynesian captures the full scope of what to expect:
“Through late 2026, some areas of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows are being refurbished. This work includes the reconfiguration of the front entrance roadway. Additionally, some views of the theme parks and other surrounding areas may be impacted. Most Resort dining, pools and amenities will remain available.
Through late October, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be temporarily closed due to refurbishment work at the Grand Ceremonial House.
While construction activity will be noticeable during daytime hours, efforts will be made to minimize disruptions. Please allow for extra travel time when arriving at or leaving the Resort.”
