Another Historic Disney World Resort Area Will Disappear Next Month
Walt Disney World Resort has announced that Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds will undergo a major renovation beginning in early October. The project will focus on the lobby area of the Disney Resort hotel, which will be temporarily closed. The work is expected to continue through early November 2025.
According to a notice posted on the resort’s booking page last week, Walt Disney World Resort guests should expect some maintenance noise and visible work during their stays in October and November. The check-in area will also be temporarily moved to a nearby, modified location.
“From early October through early November, 2025, the lobby at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will undergo renovations,” Walt Disney World Resort writes. “Guests may hear or see maintenance in the area until work is complete, and the check-in area may be moved to a modified location nearby. Upon arrival, please follow posted signage and reach out to a Cast Member if assistance is needed.”
This renovation follows a recent wave of lobby updates across Walt Disney World Resort hotels. At Disney’s Pop Century Resort, construction in the lobby has nearly finished, with the modernized food court and gift shop now open. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is currently developing its first-ever lobby bar alongside new, custom Victorian fixtures. Meanwhile, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is still undergoing lobby updates after finishing a refurbishment of its BouTiki gift shop this summer.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort has undergone a transformation in recent years, with the introduction of the modernized Disney Vacation Club (DVC) cabins. These cabins, which offer a more luxurious take on the once-rustic Fort Wilderness accommodations, have received mixed reviews due to their high price tag and minimalist design. The cabins are some of the priciest accommodations at Walt Disney World Resort.
It remains unclear whether the new lobby will follow the modernized theme of the DVC cabins or maintain the rustic style that Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is known for. Disney has yet to share what the updated lobby will look like once the upcoming renovation is complete.
