Disneyland Quietly Reopens Star Wars Location After Mysterious Closure

An Expansion Is Coming

For millions of visitors each year, stepping into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland isn’t just another theme park experience—it’s a chance to live inside the galaxy far, far away. Guests roam the outpost of Batuu, hear the hum of starships overhead, and encounter characters from the beloved sci-fi saga created by The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm.

Few places inside the land capture that immersive spirit quite like Oga’s Cantina.

The lively watering hole has long been a centerpiece of the Black Spire Outpost storyline, inviting travelers to sip themed beverages while listening to the unforgettable beats of DJ R-3X, better known as DJ RX. For many fans, it’s one of the most atmospheric experiences anywhere inside Disneyland Park.

But earlier this year, something unusual happened.

At the end of January, Oga’s Cantina quietly closed its doors, leaving fans wondering what exactly was happening behind the scenes. Disney offered little explanation beyond routine refurbishment, but speculation quickly spread among the Star Wars community as Batuu’s most famous cantina went dark.

Now, the doors have reopened—and guests are starting to notice that something feels a little different.

Oga’s Cantina Has Always Been One of Galaxy’s Edge’s Most Immersive Locations

Since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge debuted at Disneyland in 2019, Oga’s Cantina has served as a must-visit stop for fans exploring the remote trading port of Batuu. Designed to echo the legendary Mos Eisley cantina from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the venue blends music, storytelling, and themed beverages in a tightly packed but lively environment.

Guests crowd around standing tables while DJ RX spins galactic tunes, animatronic bartenders mix colorful drinks, and smugglers, travelers, and bounty hunters all appear to mingle inside the bustling establishment.

Because of its popularity, reservations for Oga’s Cantina often disappear quickly. For many Disneyland visitors—especially Star Wars fans—it’s considered one of the most memorable experiences inside the land.

So when the cantina unexpectedly closed at the end of January, longtime visitors immediately took notice.

Disneyland Guests Started Asking Questions When the Cantina Closed Earlier This Year

Disney frequently performs maintenance and refurbishments across Disneyland Resort, but the sudden closure of Oga’s Cantina sparked curiosity among the park’s most dedicated followers.

Was the location receiving a simple refresh?

Or could something bigger be happening behind the scenes?

The timing of the closure seemed particularly notable, as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been slowly evolving its storytelling since opening. While the land originally focused heavily on the era of the First Order and the Resistance, Disney has increasingly explored ways to incorporate characters and storylines from across the entire Star Wars timeline.

Fans suspected that Batuu itself might soon be changing.

A Larger Story Shift Has Been Brewing Across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

For years, the land’s narrative centered primarily around the conflict between Kylo Ren’s First Order and the Resistance, with characters like Rey and Chewbacca frequently appearing throughout Black Spire Outpost.

But Disney has gradually hinted at a broader vision for the land—one that allows heroes and villains from different Star Wars eras to exist within Batuu.

This storytelling shift would open the door for iconic characters from across the franchise’s history to appear in the land, creating new encounters for guests visiting the parks.

And it appears that Oga’s Cantina may have just taken the first step in that evolution.

Disneyland’s Cantina Quietly Reopens With Subtle but Noticeable Changes

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Oga’s Cantina officially reopened to guests at Disneyland after being closed since late January.

Visitors stepping back inside quickly noticed the location looked refreshed and polished following its refurbishment. One particularly noticeable detail was fog drifting up from the center of the bar, giving the cantina an even more atmospheric feel.

But some of the most interesting updates were tied to the land’s evolving story.

DJ RX, the droid DJ who performs inside the cantina, appears to have received updated dialogue. Notably, references to the First Order are no longer included in his commentary.

That change aligns with a larger narrative shift planned for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Beginning April 29, the First Order will reportedly depart Batuu as characters from another era of Star Wars arrive—including Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire. The expanded timeline will bring characters from different points in the franchise’s history into the land.

The updates don’t stop there.

According to reports and photos shared by Spencer, a contributor connected to the Disney fan site Daps Magic, Oga’s Cantina’s refreshed look reflects the evolving storyline. Across Galaxy’s Edge, additional updates are expected to follow as Batuu adapts to its expanded timeline.

The Future of Batuu May Be Changing for Every Disneyland Visitor

The reopening of Oga’s Cantina may seem like a small update on the surface—but it could represent the beginning of a much larger transformation inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

With the expanded timeline bringing new characters to Batuu, along with the addition of John Williams’ iconic Star Wars music throughout the land, Disney appears to be reshaping how the galaxy far, far away comes to life in its theme parks.

Elements across the land are expected to be updated to reflect the evolving story.

For guests planning future trips to Disneyland, the next visit to Black Spire Outpost may feel very different from the last.

And if Oga’s Cantina is any indication, Batuu’s story is only just beginning its next chapter.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
