Disneyland Shuts Down Theme Park Entrance Without Notice

Disneyland Resort guests arriving at the park this week were met with an unexpected obstacle: construction walls blocking sections of the entrance, forcing visitors to navigate around closures with little warning. The sudden modifications are part of Disneyland Resort’s ongoing phased updates ahead of the Southern California resort’s 70th-anniversary celebration.

A 70th Anniversary Transformation Underway

Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney are all gearing up for Disneyland Resort’s 70th-anniversary celebration, set to kick off on May 16. The milestone event will bring a wave of new entertainment, including “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” “World of Color Happiness!”, and the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show on “it’s a small world.”

Attractions will also see updates, with “it’s a small world” featuring new Coco (2017) characters, while Toy Story Midway Mania! at Disney California Adventure will receive a Disneyland70 inspired refresh.

However, it’s not all about the fun—Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park are also making major structural updates, including an overhaul of their entrance areas. Crews have steadily upgraded the park’s turnstiles, introducing MagicBand+ compatible “tapstiles” and other digital access enhancements.

Disneyland Resort first introduced the new “tapstiles” in December, completing construction in phases to prevent full-scale bottlenecks. But now, work has expanded, impacting a significant portion of the Disneyland Park entrance.

According to WDWNT, two of four sections are complete, and a third is now blocked off. Disney California Adventure Park is also undergoing similar modifications, with construction walls causing detours for guests arriving at the theme park.

Compounding the chaos, construction walls have also popped up around Disneyland Park’s iconic Mickey Mouse floral arrangement, which has temporarily been replaced with a Minnie Mouse design in honor of Women’s History Month. It’s unclear whether these barriers are connected to the entrance refurbishment or are part of separate maintenance efforts.

No Timeline for Completion

While Disneyland Resort has yet to make an official statement on when the entrance construction will be finished, all signs point to the updates being completed in time for Disneyland70. For now, guests should prepare for possible delays and detours when entering Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
