Disneyland Monorail Will Close Next Month, No Reopening Confirmed

The Disneyland Monorail will shut down indefinitely on March 30 with no announced return date, forcing guests to find alternative transportation between Downtown Disney and Tomorrowland.

Disneyland Resort confirmed the closure on February 16 on its official refurbishment calendar. The 2.5-mile transportation system will close the same day as Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin in Mickey’s Toontown.

Construction Permits Filed for Upgrades to the Disneyland Monorail

Recent construction permits filed by Disneyland Resort reveal plans to upgrade support pillars and electrical work on the historic Monorail system. However, the improvements may not produce visible changes to the Southern California Disney Park guest experience when service resumes.

The Tomorrowland station will presumably close along with the Monorail on March 30, eliminating that entrance to Disneyland Park. Guests will need to use the main entrance or access the park through Disney California Adventure with Park Hopper tickets.

Disneyland Resort has not publicly explained the closure or provided a reopening timeline.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin Also Closing

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin closes the same day for scheduled refurbishment. The Mickey’s Toontown dark ride underwent major changes after COVID-19, including redesigning Jessica Rabbit’s role in the attraction’s storyline from being tied in a trunk wearing a sultry outfit to serving as an active detective.

Whether the upcoming closure involves routine maintenance or additional updates remains unconfirmed. Disneyland Resort’s refurbishment calendar currently extends only through March 30, providing no indication of when either attraction will reopen.

The simultaneous closure date suggests coordinated maintenance scheduling, though Disneyland Resort hasn’t announced any connection between the projects. Guests visiting the Southern California Disney parks after March 30 should plan for limited attraction availability in Toontown and no Monorail service for an undetermined period.
